^^^ there was MTB, Touring and Racing models. Each was a different frame designed using (for the time) very sophisticated computer mathematical modelling analysis.
They are made from magnesium casting alloy used quite a bit in aircraft components because of its high strength to weight ratio, so in theory it's possible to repair a crack (Tig welding typically) but very difficult due to the material .. you'd be better off looking for another frame.

That is rather nice

TIG welding anything cast is a bit of a nightmare.

Essentially you can treat these frames just like alluminium frames. i.e. you can use a grinder on them (how I removed the shifter hump), use a blow torch on it etc. Heck you can even weld it if you really want to.

And like an Ali frame you'd need to heat treat it after welding I guess, which is where it becomes too costly to bother.

This was out at Milton Keynes on Saturday in the central league. It's a hell of a lot of bike - you'd hope they were going for at least a league win.

That's lovely. Is it a road frame that has had the dropouts changed? Or was it built as a road going fixed / ss?
-
• #80315
From the BB drop, I'd assume it was built that way

I like this attitude:

A Readers Wives tatty but moderately frame with some forgettable parts next to that Zanconato is like eating your Greggs sandwich while staring through the window of the Fat Duck.
Was never going to cut the mustard in this thread, but the contrast isn't kind.
