That build must be pushing $20k...
Not with those cheap wheels, and aren't Rotors for people who can't afford DuraAce cranks?
-
• #74628
what about the fucking silver spacers?
Is that a alu steerer I can see through the stem too (I must be seeing things, right?)?
Carbon railed saddle please? -
• #74629
What's the point of these super light frames anyway, when they will have to add weight to meet UCI regulations; only so many recreational cyclists will buy a $10K frame, so presumably they're made for racing?
-
• #74630
^^clear spacers to show off the steerer which is carbon treated in some kind of metallic compound to make it stronger/reduce chances of crushing.
-
• #74631
^^they are for the buyers. There are plenty of them happy to spend 10k on a frame - it's about $60k cheaper than buying a cheap Porsche.
^ ah - that makes sense. Still looks a bit crap though.
-
• #74632
Yeah, would probably be fine without the clear spacers, but of course they had to show it off.
-
• #74633

Yes, 325 of them. We won't see these being raced, I doubt that Cervelo will even bother to get the UCI sticker for them. Making a short run of them for Freds with more money than sense is just a way of defraying some of the R&D cost of the next generation race frame. Also part of their marketing spend - the people who can't afford this will be more likely to get a "cheap" R5Ca now that Cervelo have had all that free publicity from the cycling media for this technology demonstrator.

^Forget 'raced' try 'ridden', I wonder how many will ever have pedals added......
-
• #74635
Well, you have to attach pedals when you're doing the 'complete bike on hanging scale' shot for the weightweenies forum
-
• #74636
How about the 'complete 200+ lb owner suspended from a light fitting by his 42" belt' pictue?
-
• #74637
Well, it'll get you from one end of your beautiful goldplated driveway to the other in no time.

Insert bitchy dig at expensive, light bikes here

Dat front clearance is a madness! Looks like its touching.. crazy

Built for 19/20mm tyres.

I really don't see what the problem people have with that Cervelo..
It's a very very light frame that's has an awful lot of R&D work put into it. Yes it's expensive, but so what? Some people actually enjoy getting something a little different and spending their hard-earned cash on a luxury item, not everybody wants a beater which they can count the pennies starting to fill in their pockets. I can appreciate it for the engineering behind it, the time and effort it's taken to get to that final product.
I do think most people are super jealous because they can't have one, when really they'd give a bollock to have one.

You answer that yourself:
It's a (...) luxury item
I've witnessed someone buying one of those (previous model) and I can assure you that said bike was not bought to be ridden. If you have that sort of money AND you're into your cycling you'll most likely buy/ride something else.
-
• #74644
My hope at ridiculous o'clock is that nobody has a problem with that Cervelo. However, it might be reasonable to laugh at anyone who would buy it but not ride it. Considering that anyone who can afford it could easily donate it to someone talented and younger than Methusaleh should (but never will) do so. Hell, they might even put pedals on it.....

Yeh me, i'll fucking win the tour i swear

Cannondale's supersix evo ultimate? that's the problem .. Evo is about $4000! UCI compliant .. listed 695g for 56 size not 54 size that Cervelo are media hyping .. It's price is insane
-
• #74647
But the SuperSix is about as aero as a 4" downpipe. Cervelo's tech demonstrator is clever, and we don't have a problem with the bike or Cervelo's attempt to get uber-Freds to fund their R&D, but we still reserve the right to speculate about exactly who will buy the frames and then take the piss out of them.
-
• #74648
I'd say that was true of the older bikes- my System Six for example, which is made out of carbon fibre drainpipe*.
With each iteration of the SS/SS-Evo Cannondale have slimmed the tubes down and made an effort to get more out of the wind- without going to aero tube profiles that said.
If you have a look at the very latest SS-Evo frames that are currently being raced there is a fairly strange looking cutout/straight-through section above the BB to duct the air, so it's clear that it is something that they are thinking about.
*Apart from head on, Tour Mag did a test and the System Six did really well, just as long as you are always straight on into the wind...

I'm pretty sure that gap is not related to aerodynamic development, and I'd hazard a guess that it's actually worse to have a hole there than it would be to plate it over, albeit by only a tiny bit since the air there is all but stalled and completed fucked* by the cranks. The speculation is that the split seat tube is to make it more laterally stiff and vertically compliant™

^^Is that the Tour article that showed the SS Evo to be a bit unstiff (relatively) compared to the competition, including the Cervelo and the boggo SuperSix?
Edit: It was a Giant test. Cervelo say the RCA is as stiff as the R5Ca, but how does the California compare to the Regular R5 and the R5 VWD?
I'll take two...
