  • I prefer it to the 'dale ;-)

  • The worst is that they're dutch.. a shame.

  • I find that picture mainly disturbing because of the overshoes. Not even just socks and/or shoes. All that but with overshoes too.

  • I take that back. It really is a crime!

  • The bottom picture has an almost sculptural quality as a result of the contrapposto, implied nudity and lightness on the feet suggested by the lo-pro stripes on the overshoes.

  • Is that track bike even legal to race with that chain tensioner?

  • If he rode close to the Derny, he could get the same amount of tow without recourse to the Gaston seat post and stoker stem.

  • maybe the derny is going to leave him after up to speed, or perhaps he is training for a challenge where there is no derny.

  • No, the whole point of the long stem is to get his body as close as possible to the Derny. If he isn't going to be paced, the modifications confer no advantage; he could just ride something with a longer top tube if he needs the reach.

Of course, the correct approach would be to get a Stayer bike, because they are designed to handle well at high speed while getting the rider as close to the roller of the pacing moto as possible, but clearly we're not dealing with a logical fellow here.

  • same shape as the chain ring. that's funny.

He must have done something right because he has the (previous and) current world hour record behind the derny: 66.639km. Maas van Beek, 57 years old.

    But the bike is ugly

  • he clearly only has the world record because tester hasn't bother going for it yet.

shit he could have gotten a proper tt front wheel for all I care but ^

What are the UCI regs for stayer bikes? Or at least those bicycles used for record purposes.

Otherwise props to the guy, amazing achievement which should be met with a little more respect than currently shown on here. I cannot hate on his bike, it must have functioned well.

  • no specific mention of stayer bikes in the bike regulations.

no mention of regulations for bikes in the motor paced paragraph of the race regulations except "The bicycle and the moped (derny) shall be submitted to the Equipment Unit for approval at least 15 days before the date of the attempt.". might be the reason why the bike looks like it does.

General UCI regulations stipulate wheels of equal size and saddle nose behind BB centre, so some classic Stayers are not legal for UCI records.

  • he clearly only has the world record because mgittings hasn't bother going for it yet.

  • classic Stayers are not legal for UCI records.

he had no choice, so logic wasn't needed anyhow.

he clearly only has the record for 10 more days because Peter Schep will better it at the Dutch track Nationals behind mr. Joop Zijlaard's broad back

  • classic Stayers are not legal for UCI records.

There. Exactly this. So you confer there was no point for him to use a classic stayer (logic).
