  • ^^ good work drøn - very classy

  • Whilst we're on the subject of classic italian track bikes in their conventional colourschemes, here's another stunner I spotted at L'Eroica - judging by the saddle brace it's a 6day bike.

  • Funny how the large majority of all the bikes i ever owned fit into this thread :)

All but a few of these have unfortunetly been sold over the years or id have a nice collection (and a cramped appartment..) One bike in one bike out sux but so does not beeing able to feed yourself, so the rule has no exceptions.

Tuscany wasent superstiff. but very comfy.

Tiarrow monster cross was a beast with pretty od geo. A great do it all bike with a pretty flexy headtube.

Legend was beautifull but was on the small side.

Tiarrow road was pretty light frame but also on the small side. More comfy than racy.

This Tiarrow was built for dad who likes it but do not ride it enough.

My all time favorite the Moots compact. Stiff enough and a great ride. It deserves 2 photos.

Then perhaps the prettiest of them all the Merlin imo. It had the best looking ti seatsays i ever saw. Took a 28-30mm and was abit of a ti frenzy project.

Latest is a Moots pshyclo-x (currently in the classidieds)

Below were 953 stainless steel bikes. Tbh i prefered the 853 bike i had to these. Perhaps not a direct result of tubing tho. Geo etc prolly played a big part as all were bought used and as such was designed for someone else.

IF SSX used an eccentric bb for hollowtech 2 by forwards components as it was designed for gears.

IF SSR was a very nice purple.

Kirk Jks. had some very nice paint

    From Ti bikes thread

  • Yep, they are all awesome!

  • does anyone other than enve make carbon forks these days?

are they leagues better than easton or other manufacturers, or is everyone just sheepishly following a trend?

  • ...and tenuous orange Chris King / Brake pad colour matching.

  • does anyone other than enve make carbon forks these days?

    Alpha Q.
    I personally love the cx20

  • Dont think alpha q is around anymore either. Many of the big carbon forks producers do not make forks anymore.

I agree on the cx20, was a very nice fork. Easton forks are still around and they make a good product imo.

  • it was more a comment that it appears no one is putting any other forks on new bikes

and a lot of people just assume enve finishing kit means straight to porn

  • Agreed but there is also a very limited selection to choose from unless you want to go chinese.

I think a lot of 'merkins like them because they are domestically manufactured.

Me too. Got them on my cross bike.

  • Timber!

    Nice detailing

  • uh oh...

  • Aren't compact road bars all pretty much equal?

I like FSA Omegas and was planning on using Spotterdrops™ in a wider width on another bike. Is there much difference in their shape?

I had FSA Omega bars and really liked them, apart from the width, which was 44cm measured from c-c of the bars at the ends of the drops, which effectively left me 41cm from c-c at the hoods because they flared out, but still a really lovely shape to hold.
Tried the Spotter bars, which did have a better width, but that was the only thing accurate about them, as the both the reach and drop measurements given were wrong at about 10mm extra to both.

You'd notice a difference between the Omegas and Spotter's, the latter have an odd curve on the drop that felt like a gap between the palm of my hand and the bar.

Insofar I find the 3T Ergosum and Salsa Cowbell to have a very comfortable drop.

    IMO etc. etc.

Agree with Ed on the feel of the Spotter bars drop, I didn't like it much either.
But I have found the 3T Ergonovas to be great, 46cm c-c in the drops again, but 44.5cm on the hoods which are about the widest comfortable hoods I've found to date, and even though they are more money (£52 from WinstanleysBikes) they are so worth it.

    ... IMO

  • moots with the zoncolan and the cinelli... strong page!

    except the bamboo, obvs

  • lol. Too true.

nuknow made reference to gorilla arms last time I posted a bike in here with Alpha Q forks. He's so fickle. What can you do?

  • I think a lot of 'merkins like them because they think they are domestically manufactured.

FTFY .. All Enve components are made offshore, apart from rims and tubing, which makes their pricing even more difficult to swallow when you see the price of comparable products from 3T etc

.. the forks are good. I have an Enve 2.0 because as badboybjorn said there is a very limited selection in the aftermarket, and Enve cover most requirements - rake, cross, road etc. and to parapharse DJ, nothing will make people swoon like a bike built up with Enve parts ;)

True Temper pulled the Alpha Q and Reynolds don't acknowledge they ever made forks now ..

  • This is awesome. Modern rims though?

Amazing!!! Anyone know what the deal was with the white bar tape gum hoods thing? Even then there must have been pleanty of colour options for tape and black n white hoods at least. The gum hoods something to do with the days of shellac or was it just a fashion thing like the black stems?

  • That was just the natural finish for rubber at the time.

  • White tape was probably just tradition/fashion. All the old Legnano's back to the war had red cloth tape, and in the 70's stripey/coloured Benotto tape was all the go. The Ambrosio/Bike ribbon on that bike was available in various colours, but white and black would work with every frame colour/shade.

Modolo Weinmann & Campag offered gum, white and black hoods, not sure whether this was an option, or whether it depended on which model you bought, Universal tend to be gum only.

It's all a bit before my time, but it may also be that tan compound feels better (softer natural rubber?) by comparison with the plastic coloured hoods.

  • shitbike

    please stop posting here :(!

  • Had somehow never noticed that Merckx always rode with gum hoods n white tape in the 70s. That Fantini must have been built as the fashion was on the way out. Seems like most bikes of that black stem era had white hoods.

  • my nerves can't handle this thread. plz warn in the first post. just wanted to say that.
