    I've trapped myself under a 100kg+ bench press bar a couple times now. I have yet to find the weight at which quietly rolling it down to my waist and crawling out without anyone seeing, becomes more painfull than crying out for help.

    Although lying in the fetal position, wimpering 'dont touch me' to those trying to help me. while rocking from side to side with a pulled stomache muscle. Has probably removed any self respect I may of had in that gym anyway.

  • I presume your training for strength gains as your benching 100kg+ and your on a cycling forum, probably not a body builder.

    You use type IIB/X fibers, and type FF motor units, when you lift a near-maximal weight. These fatigue very quickly. Some folks are able to draw upon type FR motor units and type MA muscle fibers to help finish that extra rep, albeit at a slower tempo. Others, like myself are not. It sounds like your one of these chaps too.

    Don't train to absolute fatigue on every set. When the speed of your press decreases you have fatigued those larger motor units. These are the ones we are interested in for strength. Any more is asking for an accident and is going to hammer your CNC unnecessarily. You risk over training and injury.

    Strengh and upper body bulk for Rugby.
    All my failiures have been when my session is finished and I realise its still early. So I go for some glory lifts while already tired. Otherwise I often do that slow last rep.
