  • DOF fail too

I refrained from pointing that out as I have been guilty of that crime too.. but good call...

  • and i want to follow you on my mtb with suspension forks and disk brakes, hopefully the tediously slow pace will be mitigated by watching you crash.

That's right I forgot the trails were owned by people who are so obsessed with multi grand squishy bikes, fast lap times and how they look while doing it that they forgot how to actually have fun. Get over yourself already I never suggested it would be the best way to negociate off road trails, just a really fun one.

  • also they have a cool take on Sprung seatposts

I doubt it will be, as you will be at the mercy of the inappropriate bike you suggest riding as opposed to tackling what lies ahead with the best possible tool for the job... Would you suggest car races where all the vehicles are restricted to 35MPH?

To balance out the waffle... hope to god it's not a repost...

    You're missing his point completely.
Did you never jump a hand me down shopper bike off a home made ramp as a child?
Have you never messed about on a downhill course on your xc bike?
I have, and I had fun.
Your statement above is spoken like a true 'adult'.

Having fun isn't always about using the best tool for the job...sometimes it's as simple as having a bit of a piss about on something that isn't.

  • About 50 meters too far.

  • Needs more petrol.

  • I used to jump a crap hand-me-down shopper off home made ramps until I knew better, then I got a bike fit for purpose, which didn't restrict what I could do.
I get the feeling people who harp on about "just having fun" claiming it doesn't matter what bike they use have only been riding a year or two and are yet to advance to a stage where equipment limitations would bother them... Sure riding one of those monstrosities would be mildly amusing for a few mins but you can not do on them what you could on a bike with gears and a freewheel, and that's quite simply a fact.

Sorry to harp on everyone... and thanks for calling me an "adult", sadly I'm quite far from being a proper one...

This is all that he was implying he wanted to do from what I read...he wasn't talking about racing the xc championships on it.

This is why I usually prefer to ride fully rigid off road these days...because I find it more fun.
It reminds me why I loved mountain biking in the first place, some 25yrs ago...the feeling of being bounced and jarred and sometimes being on the edge of control....usually with an enormous grin on my face. Suspension gradually dulled that down for me over the years.
Obviously you can do different things with long travel, but suspension, and fun off road aren't mutually exclusive.

    Basically, yes.

So much truth in this post. I don't even feel like I need to defend my point of view against so much smug stupidity, but it's pretty obnoxious to just assume I've been riding for a year or two based on the fact that I haven't forgotten how to have fun on a bike. I've been riding bikes since I was a toddler and I would have quit a long time ago if I didn't think it was fun. But that's probably because I'm not motivated by owning the best and most expensive equipment, dressing up like a tool and looking down on people who put having fun first on their list of priorities.

    So beautiful!!!

  • So what?

    ftfy.
Anybody can make pretty pictures of a TT bike incorporating all the fashionable features. Making one which actually rides and performs better than a boring old P3 is much harder. CGI isn't bike porn; at most, it's bike hentai.

  • That canyon looks like every other TT bike around at the moment. Vertical seatpost, aero fairing out front, aero carbon frame. It's nice but it's still just a photoshop

The F117 features those nasty looking edges, aerodynamically disastrous but the best that they could do with the state of the art stealth modelling available in the 1980s. The B2 is smoother, and manages to combine a clean aerodynamic shape with even better low-observable characteristics. Since radar cross section is an irrelevance on a bicycle, I'm wondering why Canyon copied the 'barely flies' F117

i used to have that chainring then i bought a 62 and manned up
