Fishing line by the look of it - you can see it coming out of the front of the stem.
But can't see anything on the saddle so that must be magnets.

I'd like to see the Chesini photographed to the same high standard as the Somec. It deserves much better than those phone pics.

The fact that they've built a commuting bike without mudguard eyes or rack mounts would suggest its just for show.

The fact that they've built a commuting bike
Why do you say "commuting"? I though the current term for the market segment made up of flat bars and skinny tyres was "Fitness Bikes", in which case the lack of rack and mudguards is no problem as they are only meant for short fair weather rides. Of course, proper cyclists know that flat bars on what is otherwise a road race bike are silly, but they seem to sell well to people too stupid to realise that it would only take a couple of hours of riding to get over their fear of drop bars, after which it's win all the way.

Why the white seatpost on the Cannondale?
IMHO silver saddle and tape to match the silver details, and Its lovely.
Because it has white decals on the frame. My phone (well it's hippy's) does no justice to the bike. If/when I can get a decent shot of it I will. It's nice subtle porn from a manufacturer not typically associated with tasteful.

Oh mr tester, you've no idea how hard it is to try and convinced customer to try out the drop bar instead of going to what appear comfortable.
