  • Would it be for track use (i hope)? Considering the fixie skidder behind it..

  • He'd be a fool to run tubs on a skiddr

  • Hello folks

Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but I'm still at nursery status, so can't start a new one.

Have been cycling around London recently on a fairly hefty (13.4kg) GT Traffic 4.0, and been trying to use just the one gear to get into the idea of a single-speed, as they seem so much lighter and quicker.

If I was going to get one, I'd be on a seriously tight budget (would need to sell the Traffic, can't imagine I'd get much for it), and so I've been looking at gumtree. I know how to avoid the obviously stolen ones, and I was looking at this: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/brand-new-single-speed-bikes-93kg-with-flip-flop-hub-for-freewheelfixed-gear-options/81751197

Can anyone tell me if it's likely to be any good, or if it's a cheap piece of rubbish? I really have no idea, and I can't afford to build my own from top quality parts. It seems a lot lighter, and although most of the parts aren't branded, I'm tempted to take a chance on it.

Any advice would be much appreciated, either on that bike, or how I might find another decent one for a similar price (if that's possible...)

    Thanks in advance

    Andy

  • Oh yeah, it is the same one! Didn't recognise it in new surroundings. The photos are in amongst others of a track day on flickr but no guarantee it's not used for fixĂ© skids.

  • UTFS etc... It's free for all users.

Fenocchio bikes....cheap shite for gullible idiots

    Delightful, thanks.

How was I supposed to know that this bike is a Fenocchio? Thank you for the information, anyway.

  • Reminds me of the ancient kitkat (I think) advert where this band take their tape to an a&r man.
He listens to a bit of it and says:
"you can't sing, you can't play. You look awful..........

    You'll go a long way"

They'll sell loads of those bikes because they are cheap and shit and based in London's trendy "east london my friend" of London.

  • Fair enough. Not remotely interested in the hipster element. Just want something a bit lighter and nippier for getting around town. Quite a few bikehead mates have been telling me a single-speed is the way to go for city cycling.

Any ideas for what to look for? Where to go?

    Cheers

  • How about a bike shop?

    Radical, I know.

  • I wish people would stop using those stems on such lovely bikes.

You mean the Look ergostem which comes on some of the Look 496s?
The very well made and stiff stem that allows the riders to switch between aerobars and sprint bars and get their position dialled exactly?

  • Neither did I - I just UTFB and searched for terms in the gumtree ad.

So, search for terms about which I know nothing, to find a brand name about which I know nothing, or ask the lovely, approachable folk on a single-speed message board? No, completely unreasonable. My mistake.

Andyp, I tried Evans, and one or two other places. Folk in there are friendly enough, but I'd like to do some research before I buy anything. Given that I know almost nothing about the bikes, a friendly message board seemed the place to start.

    Sure I'll find one soon.

  • ^^ Sums up what a lot of new members probably feel I would say.

Hi Monthen, really depends on what you're after and the budget you have. If you're looking for an off-the-peg bike (complete from Evans etc) you can't go wrong with a Fuji Classic track. Another frame which is very popular round these parts is the Surly Steamroller. Search for both bikes and you'll surely get some hints on what you might want from your ride.

  • monthen, this just wasn't the right thread, your question was definitely valid though. i'd say get a surly steamroller, you will love it. look up the steamroller thread on here, tons of people do. i know you're on a budget but don't get something cheap and shitty, an otp steamroller is definitely worth it as it will last you bloody ages.

  • Sorry to quote this pic again but I'm in the market for some bullhorns with a short reach and intern cabling - a bit like like what she's using.

I realise these have no internal routing but is there anything which is similar on the market place?

    Repost but who cares.

  • Most bullhorns have internal cabling. Or if they don't, you make it.

  • What did you search for, out of interest?

    I searched for williamchiklis.

So your suggestion is to search the email username of the chap selling the bike? Great help. A quick google of that doesn't bring up much, and as mentioned, I have no idea about the Fenocchio brand. I have no ideas which sites' reviews can and cannot be trusted, and so a message board seemed the obvious place to start.

The next time I need some petulant sarcasm, I'll get in touch.

Thanks very much for the info, seems a good load of stuff to start with. Will have a look.

    Cheers.

  • Most, but not on the Nittos I have currently. Got advised against drilling them. Having ridden on the RB18s since this Jan they are flexy and a hole would not inspire me with confidence!

  • the only raleigh IMO worth posting

Steady on, I rather like this.

I hope you are not infering that this place is friendly?
    Welcome to LFGSS.
Basically we are all mostly sometimes nice really, when not being cunts.

OTP thread is a good place to start, remember bike shops will push the brands they stock and never start a debate on helmets, headphones or leg shaving. Oh and if someone has a different opinion to you and it is just that, an opinion, flame the fuck out of them for being wrong.

I would recomend reading the first couple of pages of this thread as I find it quite a balanced debate on being a tosser vs being nice, eventually it degenerates into a bitching and moaning fest which is also not uncommon: http://www.lfgss.com/thread53035.html

  • Hi guys, going to take some new photos of my bike this weekend, will post when I have.

  • The next time I need some petulant sarcasm, I'll get in touch.

    Fuck off, you cunt*

About an hour of your time spent UTFS would have saved you the embarrassment of posting a dumb noob question on entirely the wrong thread. Just diving in with absolutely no regard for forum etiquette or common sense means you deserve every bit of sarcasm you get.

  • Hi guys, going to take some new photos of my bike this weekend, will post when I have.

    No.

    ;-)

    What's going on today?

  • Sorry to quote this pic again but I'm in the market for some bullhorns with a short reach and intern cabling - a bit like like what she's using.

Although it isn't clear from the picture, I don't think they actually have a short reach, they are V-shaped across the width, so the handles are actually well forward of the quill. But to answer your question, the Syntace Stratos sweeps back slightly from the centre, so it probably has the shortest reach of any bullhorn. Cables go through the bar up to the corner, not all the way to the centre bulge.

  • Don't tell me what I can't do!

  • Did you get your W.O.W. account cancelled?
would you be trying to suggest I am some kind of nerd? Well my friend.. What the fuck are you?

  • Don't tell me what I can't do!

    Hahaha.

    Take your meds!
