That why I said 'frame rate', I don't know the correct term but it has the same effect in your eyes as it does with a camera.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_rate#Visible_frame_rate

Thats a shit load of £££ in mavic wheels there

  • As others have mentioned, ever watched a car wheel while it's spinning? Or even a mtb tyre as you prin it in front of you? You will get the same effect as seen on a camera but at a different speed.

Only if the illumination has a strobe effect, e.g. any kind of AC discharge lamp, such as fluorescent or sodium street lighting.

  • Must be the cataracts in my eyes then as I see it in daylight

  • Thats a shit load of £££ in mavic wheels there

That was my first thought, but really only about £40k at retail, so pocket change compared with the £94m cost of the track.

  • Nope... I have seen many a car wheel in broad daylight appear to spin backwards.

  • You're on drugs

  • Not right now...

I remember asking my dad when I was little, as we cycled along the road that goes from mine to harrogate...

"dad, why are that cars wheels spinning backwards?"

Think the effect happens somewhere around 30mph.

go and look at some cars.

  • Which road?
    I grew up in Harrogate.

  • Scotland Lane in Horsforth... not exactly on your doorstep but you get my drift.

  • Harrogates a nice place. Been there a couple of times

  • Harrogate pr0n

  • They did a Harrogate 100 last year, I missed it though...

Anyone know if it's an annual do?

  • oooh! :( they fucked up a neat bike with crappy cranks and that shit on the handlebar!

  • For a good example of how our eyes percieve movement, just look at a Technics 1200/1210 platter. When the pitch is adjusted, the markings on the side of the platter appear to move forwards or backwards according to the adjustment made.

  • The wheels need blacking out, but otherwise prontastic*

    (*Anti for some I'm sure)

  • Typo on saddle way too small.

  • Last page good page. This page not so much.

  • yes, lacking some valuable input from MASH rider...

It has a strobe light on it to generate the effect. Under continuous light, the effect occurs unreliably, and not in all people, and not dependent on speed, i.e. the motion can, to some people, appear to reverse arbitrarily even when there is no speed change.

  • Couldn't they fit a bigger saddle on that BMC?

  • Harrogate pr0n

    Why is the sky strobing??

Thats using a red stobe light though.
