out of all of them the nishiki is the nicest.

• #37703
Some really bad examples of Mtb porn on here.
I'll attempt to correct that with this DH monster (BMW Race Link).
the nishiki is a classic and this bike and dumber than a brick. Fucking hate this bike. such a worthless POS

no MTB on this forum please. It's like wine aficionados talking about beer. doesn't work.

Don't! leave it there. this rule is ridiculous
The rule makes sense, and I don't think he broke it since he or his family no longer owns the bike, I was just having a little fun. You only have to look back about 1 page to see how poor some people's judgement is when it comes to assessing the porn worthiness of their own rides.

Why is the Nishiki a 'classic' and why is the Brooklyn a 'worthless POS' ? :]

Ha...Fuck off...It's nothing like.
Do you think that because so many people love skinny wheels on here that they don't have the knowledge to have a discussion about other types of bikes?
I ride single speed and fixed off road so I'll post whatever the fuck i choose in 'bike porn'. ;] -
• #37708
Infact the whole reason i found this forum years ago was through a discussion on fixed off road riding.

Thanks to the stuff I've read on this forum, and the people I've met, I have a new found interest in mountain bikes.
Stick that in your bong and toke it.

Even without taking into account the very diverse range of accepted topics here, the fact that LFGSS includes Single Speed in its name surely suggests that you're likely to be exposed to MTBs from time to time.

It depends how you define bad really doesn't it.
Perhaps you could explain why the Brooklyn is more pornworthy than the Mantis? Its just my opinion - it doesn't make me right!
Elevated chain stay's were adopted by loads of companies but seem to have had there day. I'm not certain why but apart from chain slap I can't see any real benefits. I'm sure one of you will know better :)
BMW are to overbuilt and heavy for my taste but I see them as porn as they are pretty unique in there drive approach - and if you seen a Race Link or Slope Ranger in the flesh they really are drool worthy.

I know it's your opinion...i just like to hear WHY people see something as good or bad. :]
One of the biggest benefit of elevated stays was to allow shorter chainstays for better climbing. Back then most companies still used chainstay bridges, so the length had to allow for the bridge and mud room...E stays meant the wheel could sit closer to the BB.
Chain slap reduction was definitely a bonus too with mechs having weaker springs back then and flopping all over the place.I agree Brooklyn makes pornworthy bikes...that's why i've owned 5 over the years. :]

That's a crappy example of an Alpinestars
how about this?
P.S. I have the exact one of those frames without the forks for sale for reasonable money ;) pm me if you want
fuck that alpinstar in red! Fuck it!
how about black? (no racist jokes)

• #37714
The T26 was pretty porn worthy if you were tiny, seeing as that's who it was aimed at. There weren't all that many options for really short riders back then.
As was the even smaller T 24.
The only Alpinestars i ever liked was Mike Klosers Ti Mega...especially when he had the lawwill leader forks on. :] -

Really? With a Miche Supertype post flirting with the insertion line and a cheap Stronglight headset?

Why is the Nishiki a 'classic'
Weren't the Nishikis designed by Chris Cunningham or whatever his name was, and based on the design that would eventually become the Mantis range?
This is half statement/half question because experience has taught me that Mr. Grobag's experience of early to mid-nineties MTBs dwarfs mine.
-
• #37720
Almost...
Richard Cunningham already owned Mantis and made the elevated stay frames as custom jobs.
He designed frames for Nishiki to mass produce.
Both used bolted on steel rear ends and aluminium fronts in an attempt to use the best properties of both materials.
Something which Gary Fisher also did on the CR7. -

BMW's 'Cross, want;
You may want it, but it is far from porn (or the parts/build of that one anyway)

That's a really good one. I'm afraid I have to pass on the offer though seeing as I already have a Klein that doesn't get enough use. Alpinestars have a strong fan base, but you probably know that already.
I like this one a lot too:
