skip stop;
YouTube- Track bike skip stop
far more effective to slow down and considerably less wear and tear on the tyreI always wondered how bad this was on the frame, and how it affects the tubes fatigue...
If you are riding a Charge or a trick bike, that's fine, but on a classic track bike, or on road bike conversion, when pencil seat stays are present for instance...On my Holsdworth, I was alway nervous about the pencil seat stays precisely when skidding (I would only rarely do skid stop with it, as I am not good at it and I had a front brake anyway on that bike) and it broke somewhere else...

3 grand for a crank
jebus
100 for the crank, 3000 for the strain gauges, crank angle transducer, digital signal processing and the computer to store and display all the data.

random place for the tube to snap...looks like it 'was' a nice build aswell

random place for the tube to snap.
These things are rarely random. Probably crack propagation starting at the underside (where the tube is in tension) at the stress raiser caused by the edge of the lug

+1
The underside of the failiure looks to be right on the lug join. Also the butting of the tubing could very likely be around that area.Guessing though.
Still a crying shame, whatever the cause.

nice contribution there with your first post :)

Not a totally random place to crack, its at the end of the tube near the top of the fork. that part of the frame takes a lot of force - think why are tubes butted so that the ends are thicker and stronger than the middle?
I've never seen a frame snap in the middle of the tube. That would be random!
If you have still got it Argos Cycles do tube replacements and will make the paint look good as new after!

Actually it's a new design, although unsurprisingly it is influenced by the BT as the Dutch team rode BTs labelled as Kogas for several years beforehand. On the other hand, the BT is clearly very influenced by the Corima, so they can hardly be said to be the world's greatest innovators in bike design.
ok i must have missed something... BT is?

It's being fixed by Mario Vaz's builder at the moment... it's actually been with him for a while, but I'm not in a hurry so it's OK... Tube replacement was quite cheap, I would not have done it otherwise, the frame is not necessarely "special" although I love it and think it's lovely. I'm only getting a base primer on the repair, and will do the "redecoration" myself to save cost... This will not appear in porn though!!
Coming back to my first question, can skidding and skid stopping be an aggravation for the fatigue of a frame?

Coming back to my first question, can skidding and skid stopping be an aggravation for the fatigue of a frame?
It seems unlikely, given that it provides less braking, and therefore less force, than using actual brakes. Also, the loads, such as they are, are applied only through the wheel mountings, which are already designed to accept large transient loads in all axes as part of normal riding.

The extra load on the frame from skid stopping would show most on the chainstay and seatstays wouldn't it?
Skidding makes no difference but skid stopping (a lot) could. Let's see if my frame ever cracks at the chainstays then...

I don't think skip skidding would make that much of a difference, unless you like to 'slam' your back wheel back onto the tarmac as hard as possible.

im biased towards this, but i bet it is very fucking fast

Not exactly porn-worthy, but I do think it's one of the nicest Cinelli Vigorelli build I've seen insofar;
-
• #24696
Would be better with matching rims..
Just in terms of aesthetics I'm not so sure that a classic vento works with the modern Cinelli frame.

If you're riding a cheap conversion, you can bent the dropouts tho. I know I did.

Not bad, but...
Sug75 cranks with bootlegg'ed old school campy chainring doesn't really belong on a cinelli, and is that a machined deep v on the back?
For sale...in Chicago...
