Great. If it were mine the 1st thing I'd do is put nice swept back bars, like on old French and English town bikes. You know the ones made from... METAL.
Like these ;) for girlfriend bike mk2
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220469313333Worked with wood since 18, I would not ride those bars on the roads...
Unless it was laminated with some carbon or alloy slices. Or the road was perfectly tarmaced and pothole free. -

Or the road was perfectly tarmaced and pothole free.I was thinking of making up something like this: carbon bars with wooden rings (probs ash/elm combo 5-10mm thick) made up that are glued on with epoxy and sanded dead smooth. Prob's make up some brass bar-ends too. If somebody else was into a simple straight bar or something with a bit of sweep I might condsider looking into it more. I think your right about those bars, even skateboards are starting to use kevlar /carbon weave.

Wow, a Celeste Bianchi road bike with a Campagnolo groupset. Who'd have thought such a rare and exotic beast would ever be seen in captivity?

But what was the original argument here? I can't see how what your hands are gripping onto affects skidding / pedal breaking?
The distance between your hands? Position of shoulders or upperbody? Good grip?Isn't it actually easier to skid with drops as your weight is generally more forward?
stupid argument anyway - the ourys look crap on that skinny steelie.

it's even stupier when it's different for different people, some like drop, some like riser.

Hate it when they add in those background as if the bike needed it to look even prettier.

Hmm.. the mortar joints are not to nice though in the blockwork wall, but the straw sets the nagasawa off nicely.. dodgy stem me thinks a nitto would be nicer.

That is definitely a compost from a couple of pages ago..

I was under the impression that these Nitto stems were adjustable for fitting, i.e. to help in selecting the correct length of stem rather than to be used a stem in themselves. They look a bit awkward in my opinion, although the rarity will appeal to some, and not as charming as something like a Titan. Would be interested to know more if anyone has any knowledge on it.

Just as you say. Was my first idea, too!
In the 1980's at Gazelle, a similar stem was used for a bike on rollers, to determine the right toptube and stem size for a made to measure bike.
Not that the salesmen had any idea about right bike fitting, but that's another story. -

I haven't used risers on a fg yet, but IM-uninformed-O drops give you a whole load more hand positions... I think allot of ppl just have the bars lower down than they'd have risers for looks, so its not really a fair comp.
I have used both. And IMO opinion drops look a lot better on a classic looking bicycle.
However, i ride risers on my Mercian because, although it would look better with drops, i prefer riding on the streets with risers. Simples.Bingo!
