  • Yeah but if he had started a what do you think thread, rather than stuck it in Bike porn he might have got a better reception! Plus it has a whif of spam

I think they are great for shopper style bikes, but daft on an track style bike when the whole point is a minimalist approach - a better SS application would be a Genesis day one or similar, in fact i think it would work very well on one, and its another British Company:

Also what do you do when its locked up - on other bike the kit is integrated into the frame, but this looks like a tea leaf could just lift it, or else you have to carry a heavy battery around with you? Can you lock it up for 5 mins, or will it be stripped when you come back?

  • a better SS application would be a Genesis day one or similar, in fact i think it would work very well on one, and its another British Company:

    Fixed

  • They already did it on a Genisis day 1....not everybody who joins the forum knows about all these little 'in rules' about not posting your own bike in bike porn. It's not even a rule, it's just something people on here decided they would call a rule.
i really can't see bike thieves being any more interested in stealing one than any other bike.

  • I have respect for anybody that starts a business doing something a bit different, and in an original way...especially if it helps get more people cycling.
If somebody new to cycling gets on a regular bike and they're a bit unfit...they could get to the first hill and hate it....never get on a bike again...whatever. And yes, i do think they should HTFU in that case....but not everyone thinks that way.
So if they could get a little boost up it....put a smile on their face, they're much more likely to enjoy it...then they could get properly bitten by the cycling bug and buy another bike...a regular one...and find it's not as hard as it first seemed. Before you know it, they're cycling everywhere.

Like i said..it's clearly not aimed at us guys, but that doesn't make it a piece of shit...i'd say it's a really tidy version of a style of bike that normally does look like a piece of shit.

  • Fair enough Scott - i dont disagree with what you say, just think the Capo is totally the wrong machine for it

The Day One looks a hell of a lot better than the Capo though, and to my mind makes a lot more sense.

What i wanted to konw is when you lock the bike up do you have to take the gubbins with you, or can it be left on the bike?

  • I'm guessing the Capo is for someone who wants a more racey looking bike though. From personal experience i've known people completely new to cycling decide to go out and buy a bike and then pick one of the most expensive bikes in the shop purely because they can afford to....and it doesn't make them spoilt rich twats or anything...just people who can afford the best usually buy the best..i'm pretty sure i would to. :)

  • I'd still love to try one out....i'd be intrigued as someone who has cycled his whole life to see what a difference it makes to the speed/feel. :)

  • I respect innovation but if you could afford the electric bike, why wouldn't you just buy a better/lighter non-motorised bike for the money and reap the efficiency awards without the many drawbacks of the motor? (Weight, maintenance, complexity, etc.)

  • I have nothing against people splashing cash if they have got it - just think that the Genesis is a much better bike to show the kit off on than the Capo.

Anyway my main objection to the whole thing was that the post cam across as a bit spammy, i have tried a few leccy shopper style bieks, from the shop that usd to specialise i them on the Kings Road, that has now closed down, and for someone like my dad, who is 79, and cycled to work every day of his life, i thought they were a great way of keeping him on 2 wheels

  • I respect innovation but if you could afford the electric bike, why wouldn't you just buy a better/lighter non-motorised bike for the money and reap the efficiency awards without the many drawbacks of the motor? (Weight, maintenance, complexity, etc.)

Because as i said....people who are new to cycling but have the money will like the idea of having that little bit of work done for them by the motor...that's where the appeal is...people who don't know so much about bikes won't see it as a drawback...but like i said...if the motorized bike allows them to really enjoy riding, chances are they're more likely to then move on to a regular bike.

  • fully sick!

    utterly gorgeous

  • fully sick!

    praying mantis

  • that's where the appeal is...people who don't know so much about bikes and have lots of money won't see it as a drawback...but like i said...if the motorized bike allows them to really enjoy riding, chances are they're more likely to then move on to a regular bike.

Fixed. Anything that gets anyone on a bike is a good thing I guess.

  • coming from the three eyed gimp!

  • but seriously, who would have thunk gold and celeste would work

  • Nice work mark. how much does a retrofit cost?
roughly 550-600 I would guess from your parts prices..?
The 'posting your own bike in the porn thread' thing has caught many people out.
    it's totally readers' wives...

  • Modern track bike set up is all about upward sloping stems on short head tubes, as it is the stiffest, lightest and most aerodynamically efficient way to get from the fork crown to the centre of the drops. As long as the saddle to bar drop is still substantial, it's just as porn as old skool long head tube/drop stem arrangements.

Note the (IMHO) opt out of a concrete opinion on anything! ;)

WOODEN that break fairly easily? ;)
(oh geez look how good i am at this)

  • not doing no handed, no.

  • depends what it is made out of and what process has been used to make it.

  • Ezra (of Fast Boy Cycles) hasn't had any reported failure with his wooden handlebar and his were quite wide, so I'm guessing that the bar picture above should be more than fine.

Just don't give it to James.

    (image below is a repost);

  • Saw this on velospace. Really nice frame, but I feel like the kid killed it with the hubs and the handlebars.. what you guys think?
