I bought a handmade frame and belt drive kit from US EBay about for a total of $800. ............blah.............blah........ a tiny import bill, marked value = $65. What a star!
that little stunt is great if the delivery goes okay, if the item is lost or damaged in transit, how much would you claim from paypal and in turn from the seller? for sure you could claim the full 800 and they would pay you no doubt, but would it be right for you to do this?
that considered i think its a very poor bet/gamble. just a thought, just a thought.sorry if i missed something.

To be fair if it got lost you wouldn't know the value marked on the goods. However the latest stunt that HMRC pulled on me was to hold the goods, even though they were marked as low value educational item (which they were) and insist on a copy of the invoice from the seller. I don't think they would have been impressed to find out that someone had been trying to defraud them. Tax avoidance is legal, tax evasion is not. My experience is that the larger the box, the more likely it is to get stopped.

Declaring as a gift for the purpose of avoiding duty and tax is needless to say an offence and one the HMRC are well aware of. Reputable sellers won't do it, but the choice is of course yours. I mean its the government, right? Like benefit fraud, its OK to rip the government off because its our money anyway.
true dat

Did you really just compare import duty avoidance to benefit fraud? Jeez...

No that's import duty evasion not avoidance. Avoidance would be for example bringing the goods in through another EU country which had lower customs duties (though I don't know if there is one).
So yes, sorry, customs duty evasion = fraud.

what you're missing is an understanding of the whole essence of ebay. 4 seconds left and people might be a bit more intrigued.
I presume it's your wheel and you're panicking..

7600 high flange is what I am after, 36H if possible.
And by affordable I mean a front for £50.
Picking up my new rear -36H fixed/fixed to a CXP30- this evening and am very excited.
I bought a handmade frame and belt drive kit from US EBay about for a total of $800. It was a bargin, even with the £20 + 22.5% import fees (I'm in Norway). I politely asked the seller if he could price it down a wee bit, making sure that he understood that feedback would not be affected either way. It turned up at my local postoffice together with a tiny import bill, marked value = $65. What a star!
If I'd known in advance I'd have told trhe same white lie to Mrs Smallfurry ;) *
(*NB acting macho, would'nt really)
