Yep I had emailed him and he was asking for about £400. Might see if he relists!
I thought £4 plus £35 for postage was a fair deal ;-)
I went up to £100 but he wasn't keen

similar stuff; yeah i had noticed :-). skully i promise i'm not going to bid on the bates, not building anything in particular. just generally on the look out for period parts at the right price. what are you building?
Hehe. No I'm not after that Bates, I wouldn't do it justice.
I got me an ancient unnamed path frame last week. Seems pretty solid. I want to paint it as it's a horrid pink, a previous owner chose it to make it less nickable.

Em I emailed him a couple of hours after the auction had finished. Said he was looking for £400, apparently a private sale fell through but he had pulled the auction?? Unless i missed something it just ran out with no bids. Reckon he might accept an offer of around 300-350 though. I was only really interested as I thought the auction could have been won for £1, and it would be easy for me to collect

i think will be trick remove the freewheel block without the help of the rim+spokes, you will need something to hold onto while using the spanner+freewheel remover. A vice will mark the hub, even damage it
and the seller said
when the spokes were reomved they were cut out on the side with the freewheel but i unscrewed the side with the fixed wheel on it. You could put the hub in a vice if you clamped it by the sprocket or wrapped the hub in cloth so it will not get damaged. From tom

If I knew how to work with vertical drop outs i'd love this Stan Butler, only £23 at the minute
Eccentric hub like an ENO or use this http://www.eehouse.org/fixin/formfmu.php to find a magic gear

48 x 18, and a half link chain.
48x18 is the gear of the vert drop gods.
every single of the 3 ive converted have worked out just fine ( the first 2 before discovering the wonderment of half link chains).eccentric anything is too much money tbh.

Doesn't chain stay length account for anything in that measurement eyebrows?
-
• #10866
well, yes, it should
but thus far, my tianchi 650c, a random road bike, and the dave yates have all worked.thus- 48x18 = vert drop god gear.
in fact in building the tianchi, i didn't even consider any other gear.
it worked so that was good :) -

thinking about getting this. Seems pretty good and the right size for me but the question is that it obviously needs a quality reclean and respray. Would prob get a prof job to get the nice lug lining and decals back. How much do you think that would cost and do u guys the frame is worth the attention i would give it.

Ello 'brows,
So it would be a fairly simple thing to do? This would be my first full build but i think i've fallen for the frame.

from what i gather folk on here get or have got resprays for around the hundred mark with transfers. its a nice frame with quality lugs. the angles are quite relaxed. you could probably have 700c wheels on it with salmon mudgaurds and it not look out of place or 27 inch. worth buying i think but dont get into a bidding frenzy. take into account the possible total spend on the project and then assess if you think it will be worth it based partly on how much you love the cycle and its history. if you think you'll keep it for years and years and it ticks all the boxes then thats a different story-go for it, your grandson when he comes of age might even appreciate it.
