Hello Sebastian,
welcome! How do you say 'fixed gear' in German? Is it "starre Nabe"?
Verbatim translated. There's an austrian word which means "accumulation of pigs" as a group. "Sauhaufen".
We are as good as we look like on the photos.'sodcluster' isn't really a word at all!Neither is it a very good translation for "Sauhaufen". 'Sod' doesn't mean "Sau" (that would be 'sow'), for starters, and you wouldn't use 'cluster' in this context, if you wanted to translate both elements literally, but isn't "Sau" in this combination more like a prefix that indicates a particular quality rather than the animal? I'm not too sure here, as I'm from Germany, so have a different language. ;)
Needless to say, 'accumulation of pigs' doesn't really work as a translation, either. ;) "Sauhaufen" means something more like 'motley crew' (not to be confused with the band of a similar-sounding name whose spelling gives certain forum members nightmares). You could also say something like 'rag-tag band', but I don't really think that there is a word as strong as "Sauhaufen" in English.
Still, sounds as if you could get an interesting polo team together if that's the description you would go by!
Happy cycling,
Oliver. -

Hi Sebastian, nice site.
One of yours?
Nope.
It's called Narcissy, a converted Francesco, it's Thomas', the founder of Fixedgear.at. You like the pushrod brake? -
• #981
Yeah the brake is genius, shame it doesnt actually open wine too...but at least it opens beer eh?
-
• #982
And nevertheless it's definitely not from Surly.
What the .. , how many users do you have here?
-
• #983
Over 5000. I'm not sure how many of them are active though but there were close to 200 riders on a night ride organised by one of the forum members a month or so ago.

P.S. Welcome Sebastian. It must be fun cycling around Vienna at this time of year.

Love it. Very peaceful and heavenly. But the loads of Glögg-boozers make the glazed frost capricious.
No. I enjoy the cold season. And I even like the bunch of drunks.

Aren't it possible to edit the replies after posting it? I think I have to unlearn this.
In Vienna, we are about 50 fixed gear cyclists but when it comes to polo or races, audaxes, cycle ball, mountainbiking or other activities, we often invite the boys and girls of other communities - for example the "Bikekitchen" (www.bikekitchen.net), the "IG" (www.ig-fahrrad.org), the local cycle ball team or some of the Critical Mass Austia (www.criticalmass.at) - to "play" with us.
The next big thing will be a race from Vienna to Bratislava, Slovakia (about 70-80km) with checkpoints on the route with little special duties in january through the iciness. We've got 20 registrations of team of two from all over the country and even Germany. (http://www.fixedgear.at/index.php?id=143)
Someone interested? -

This is the most elegant post I've ever read. (Though it makes you sound like a cold-war spy).
And sodcluster is my new favourite word.

Ah! Hippy! I heared about you. Pleased to meet you. Never been to Austria? We even organized a Long John to transform it into a rolling Buschenschank. Sturm and Bradlfettn! (Oliver Schick, try to translate this!)
What is a GSIAD? Cannot find it in the Urban Dic.

I can honestly say I'd never heard any of these words before ... Austrian is just a different language from German. ;)
OK, so a Buschenschank is a kind of country pub that serves mainly wine?
At first I read "Buchenschrank", which I found very confusing. :)
Sturm is a kind of not fully fermented wine?
Bradlfettn--pork grease (ugh).
So basically you served some Austrian ... delicacies from a temporary pub established on the rack of a Long John ...

Ha! As long as you don't read Burschenschaft..
GSIAD sounds like fun.All our activities are accompanied by Ottakringer (biggest local brewery in Vienna) and Red Bull because of their everlasting bounteous donations.
