  • Im new to the forum, learning to navigate my way around and pick up some ideas on building my new bike.... just saying Hi!

  • Hi,
I am new. This is my first post, to introduce myself.
I've finally decided to scratch the itch that has been developing for some time and build myself a fixed wheel bike. To this end I have obtained an old Harry Quinn frame and am collecting parts. I am sure I will be asking you guys some questions on the way (I'm completely undecided about wheels for a start), and once the thing is built I would like to meet a few of you at the 'TrixieDix' car park evening or Brick Lane polo.

I'm currently rocking a lovely 1974 Raleigh Superbe, complete with Sturmey Archer 3 speed, rod brakes and a wicker basket. I used to ride my Dad's old Falcon San Remo, and his Harry Quinn road racer (which was light as a feather but I kept banging my size 11s on the front wheel) and I have a crappy Saracen mountain bike which is just a pointless overcomplicated lump really.

    Cheers,
    Niall

  • That white cervelo up there^... rear facing ends and a gear hanger? I haven't seen this on anything other than old 50s things.... is it a TT thing? I am drawn to this idea.

my old pace was made that way, as where the early kleins too.
it's so you can run either i think.

  • Makes me wonder why bikes have dropouts at all! Maybe its trickier to get the wheel off backwards with a derailleur.

  • Was up at herne hill on sunday a real good atmosphere and now desperate to have a go myself on the track .

What days are the inductions and when do they close for winter ??

    Inductions are every Sat morning at 9 a.m. (but it's best to get there for half eight to make sure you get a place). The track is open until the end of October. There's more here;

  • Cheers thanks for the link much appreciated !

  • Built this way to allow such close clearance behind the cut out down tube.

The build up is going OK - Will be completed with Campag Ultra Torque chainset and skeleton brakes and TT type brake levers.

Have now got some new wheels for it with Formula hubs - I am keeping the 130 rear width so I can switch to geared TT mode next year - this has caused a problem and I need to find a tube to make a spacer between the bearing inner races - any one any ideas?

  • Hi everyone!

Went fixed last Sunday after learning everything there is to know (well nearly) from you lot and very grateful I am.

I commute from one side of Colchester to the other and at the moment I'm lurking along country back roads. When the confidence builds up I'll thrash through the town centre. Not like London though is it?

    is colchester near here?

  • Cow - pile up - I like it!

  • hi all

tapenade from paris, french, loving your forum and sense of humor.
commuting for work every day for nearly 2 years now, on a shitty old and ugly singlespeed bike.

very soon i'll get a langster non city model (the green and white model,I know it's evil for you guys), i'll try to ride it fix, though i'm not sure to like it beacause I really really want to stay alive.

  • What's up London?

My name is Max and I'm a member from pdxfixed.com, the fixed gear site for Portland, Oregon, USA. I basically signed up to get some advice on Mack/Gromada hubs as you guys seem like the most informed about them among the english-speaking forums. The mechanics I know in Portland have never even seen these hubs before.
I'm also here to possibly represent some international jack-assery between track/fixed riders.

Sexy ass pic of me on my old bike:

Current track bike: (pic to come soon)
Surly Steamroller, Omnium cranks, Omnium chainring, Turbo signature saddle, TiTech seatpost, Gromada medium flange silver - DT Comps - Velocity Aeros, Shimano SPDs, Phil 17t cog / DA 15t cog, topped with some nasty half road/half track bent drops I got for $5. Fun to see a fairly nice setup with shitty bars eh?

I also ride a sweet 1981 531 Reynolds Gazelle with Campy components. But who care's, this board ain't for shifties.

    So hey everybody.

  • Sexy ass pic?!
    a) can't see your ass.
    b) is that lycra or just reeeealy tight shants?
    c) welcome.

  • a) some say my face resembles my ass
    b) wool actually. it was a 60 mile ride, so opted for actual riding gear.
    c) thanks.

  • Very new at this what went wrong?

Did you paste the text in from somewhere? That's what normally throws up those formatting heavy posts.

  • hello

good introduction. hard to go wrong with that.

  • old fixed riders never die, they just stop pedalling

  • Hi, I just joined.
I've been cycling around London for a while. Currently on a Carlton, Corsa Strada. One of my neighbours had it FIXED about 20 years ago and then never rode it. His new wife wanted to throw it away so he sold it to me for £10. I had to build a new back wheel but the rest is ok, it needs a new dust cap for a pedal.
