  • Although I have been visiting this forum for the last couple of years I have just decided to register.
I have been riding fixed since just after the war when I used to borrow my brother's bike. I the late 40s I did some timetrialling and grass track racing, also some polo on grass. I joined the Navy in 1952 so stopped riding for a few years until I found my feet and then got me a bike and joined the RNCA (Royal Navy Cycling Association). Did lots of touring and time trials mostly on fixed. I came out of the Navy in '68 and joined a local club and carried on TTing. In 1974 I had an accident and as I was then 40 decided to pack up racing. I still carried on riding my bike though, in fact not long after I started at the Post Office as a Postman delivering letters on a bike. I retired when I was 65 over 11 years ago and now I go out cycling about 4 or 5 times a week, usually doing between 30 to 50 miles a day still on fixed.
I have about 14 bikes hanging up in my garage 10 of them fixed.
I live in Surrey just south of Dorking and spend my days cycling around the lane of Surrey and Sussex. The days when I am not out on my bike I spend walking round the Leith Hill area.

  • ^Crikey Moses, hello!

  • Hi peeps,

  • Hi guys,

I've caught the bug off a mate and looking to build up a fixie of my very own. I'm not from London but this is by far the best site I've seen, so looking forward picking your brains over time.

    Cheers

  • Hi!

Just got into fixed gear bikes and loving it... found the forum and it looks like the best place to get some good information... Got my self a second hand Pearson Touche and will be looking for info on getting it set up right. All new to me, so please bear with me. Looking at changing the C ring, sprocket and chain as mine are fecked. Will be looking for info on getting the chain offset correct etc...

    Cheers

  • Hey all,
I've been skulking around here for a while now mooching off the classifieds, just got my Olmo Giro fixie up and running, hopefully a retro Gios on the way too. Have been cycling for ages, doing coast to coast with mates and such, but only got into the fixie thing recently. Got my lovely peugeot destroyed by a car a few months ago but that aint gonna stop me, hope to get involved in some rides and so on soon.
    see you around
    Rory

  • hello everyone, my name is richard, a 31 year old road bike enthusiast just arrived and sitting over here in the nursery. Picking up my new ride tomorrow, ebay bargin (hopefully) 531 peugeot with much work to be done on it. Sure, it looks in fine condition to zip around on but the main priority right now is what colour tape I will eagerly apply to the handlebars possibly even before I get it home. Can anyone else relate to this? - the joys of a new purchase! My old bike was stolen in Rome on christmas eve (a wham song in there somewhere). anyway, nice to be here, hello to you all :)

  • Hello everyone,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I reside in the south west of London and can be seen crossing putney bridge on a daily basis. Been riding fixed for about 3 years now, good times! Will put some pics of me and my bikes up in the names/faces/bikes thread soon so you can all have a good laugh!

  • im a hardcore commuter 365 days wotever the weather, mainly 5spd or fixed. i dont take no crap from drivers, i communicate with them excusively with saliva or solid objects. an i hate on taxis & merks indiscriminately :-)

  • Hello i'm Billy,
I'm from hertfordshire, just built my first fixie.
I mainly ride BMX but have started riding my MTB a bit more lately.
I think I will be on here quite a lot now though thanks to the fixie!

  • Time for me to build my first Fixie after a handful of rides at Herne Hill Velodrome I'm hooked :-)

  • Welcome all!

  • Hi all, just bought a bike to save petrol money on a silly 16 mile commute to Warrington from liverpool. Now hooked. Just about to buy another bike and convert it to fixed for mucking about on at weekends.

  • Soon you will be riding your daily route on your fixed and mucking about on weekends on your geared...

    welcome

  • Hi, Seems like I'm joining the queue of people wanting to build a single speed bike. Where are all the 80s race bikes in London??

  • Hi, I've been riding fixed for a couple of years now. All of my bikes could be described as at the "readers wives" end of the porn scale. I own a car but poverty forced me back on two wheels, where I found karmic delight in using landfill as a viable form of transport. I do a round trip of 28 miles three days a week and have particularly enjoyed my first opportunity to snow-bike over Christmas. I live in Belfast but am a bit anti-social (having 3 children and a huge overdraft!).
I'm looking forward to participating in the banter.

  • welcome, welcome, welcome.. You like banter? This is the right place for you.

  • And you like bikes and Karma? Youll find some on here like that too!

  • Thanks for the welcome.

I'm using my car tonight and I'm glad because the weather outside she be shite!
