  • Hello. I've been riding for about 2 months now. Had been scared of cycling on the terrible London roads for the last 3 years and when those Barclay Bikes came up I tried it and liked it, but didn't like the gears, and there are never bikes when I wanted to use them (I live right in central). Also way too heavy (I weight less than 50kg)

SOooo, bought a Specialised Langster, tried it singlespeed for a week and hated the fact I didn't seem to have enough control over the wheels, so switched to fixed. Now I love it!!

  • Nice post, Markzyi. Welcome. It's a known effect that just experiencing cycling, even on those heavy bikes, whets a lot more people's appetites for getting into the real thing. Enjoy!

  • Welcome everyone!

  • What ChainBreaker says

  • gaston fr, post your bike up in current projects...
    welcome

  • Bike crash = single speed bike.... Hi all, had a bike crash back in August and thought I'd got off lightly. The following weekend I did the SW Tour of Britain stage only to find at the end of it I had a ruputured disc in my neck. So with 4 months off my bike what did I do....built up an old raleigh nimrod in to a single speed including full respray - hope to post some pics once I'm out of kinder garden !

  • Live2ridehard, welcome.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Welcome to the fold. To make your day, you dont need to be out the nursery to post pics ( i dont think). Find some threads and post somethings intereseting and you will be out in no time.

  • after seeing some of the 'hello' posts i thought id better introduce myself properly,
Firstly im a father of 3 daughters, and a husband. Along with the regulation mortgage, job (railways) 2 dogs and 5 cycles. 1fixie Mongoose Maurice. An old Alpinestars Almega DX MTB, a Raleigh hybrid, and a self build MTB (which i may convert to a single speed of roader, and an old Raleigh Racer which im playing with in the cellar/bike shop.
Friends at work think im mad even looking at a Fixed Gear never mind owning one, and as for commuting 12 to work on it......
im riding fixed, however still using 2 brakes till i get used to skidding, i can slow myself down but not enough to stop an accident, i suppose ill get better in time and with some clips/straps. i do ride on SPDs on the hybrid and alpinestars, but i fancy a change.... ill leave that for now and look forward to your comments/jokes/insults. im used to most things working on the railway gives you a thick skin, and having a wife and 3 daughters and even thicker hide...

Very nice post sir. Welcome to the friendliest and quick witted forum on the internet. Your thick skin will come in handy more than your bike here. We will have plenty of jokes and insults. You seem inteligent so i dont need to warn you to start gently and build into it:-)

    Ride safe!

  • Hey!

  • Why is it the guy above you writes a lovely first post and you say hey?!

Pretend this is your first AA meeting... But for 'fixies'...

  • Hello!

My real name is Henrik , I don't live in London or even England. Truth be told I haven't even sat my foot in your country.
I'm from Sweden, Malmö to be exact. I started with bikes when I was around 12 years. Built my first fixie 2 years ago (now i'm 25). That one got stolen and I have been pausing the bulding since then. But now I will do a comeback. Just searching for the right frame.

    anything else, just ask!

    Peace!
    /Henke
