Hi didi! Welcome to the friendliest forum eva! I also suggest to shout "do a skid" at the top of your lungs when you think you've spotted someone who might be on here. It's our mantra on the streets and people will sometime oblige, sometimes with the most awesome skids.
Also pop round to beers on a Wednesday in the east. Good chaps there!

Hi everyone,
I just got my track bike to london and have slowly been trying to find rides and things, figured this would be a good place to start. I am studying in london (originally from the states) and so far have been trying to get used to this whole riding on the left side of the road... been commuting from tottenham to holborn pretty regularly, so if you see a fuji with disgustingly bright green rims, give a shout.

Ey up,
I'm Dan, 21 and a music student living in Shepherds bush. New to the forum and new to fixies. Just bought a CREATE from a local shop and intend to make some nice changes to it. Had a beautiful late 80s Dawes racer which was stolen from outside my flat so after losing her, I've made a switch to fixies and don't know a great deal about them. Also don't know any riders up in London yet so I fully intend to join the West End lot from here at the pub for a few and to join in with a few of the city rides!take the bike back, its not fit for purpose as a bike
then buy something 2ndhand here for the money

Evening. The usual - been stalking here awhile. Used to be Cambridge based, but now right back in the sticks of Norfolk where few have heard of bicyles, those that have think you're talking about their sister.
Commute on a SS Steel Langster and have a penchant for long rides.
Am riding London to Berlin over 7 days this May on the Steel, so i imagine i'll be training hard and seeking advice on here in the coming months...taking some banter in the process. Always looking for training rides so will keep my eyes out.
Peas.

Again much the same, been stalking around for a while and thought it was about time I joined up!
Been riding around on my early 90s Bianchi for a while now and now looking to build up a fixed gear for training and a bit more fun.
This is deff the place for some valuable shared knowledge! I hope I can now begin to contribute and get more involved.
Nice one!

sup. have been looking at the site for a while for info and thought i'd finally get round to posting.
will probably get shredded for this but here goes; i ride a spec sirrus. maybe some props when i add that I've bastardised the thing beyond any real recognition of its original state - easton tempest 2 wheelset, profile bull bars with drop levers, single speed with new chain ring & cogs, mks pedals. but its still a sirrus. its worked as a first project but now looking at getting a nice old frame and building up from scratch.
live in north london and relative newb when it comes to bikes but im hooked and learning and getting there.. slowly..

Welcome all! Pleasure to have you along for the ride!
Dont worry about your bikes, as long as you love them :-) We are not here to be judge and jury (well, except Ed perhaps). As long as its safe (please never buy a Create/Unipak - sorry to the dude who did).
Make sure all your bolts and nuts are tight (and i waiting on some quip from the regulars), if youre riding single speed, make sure you have 2 brakes. If you have it fixed, make sure you have foot retension like straps and cages or clipless like spds (though here most love time atacs...)
Post the relavent questions in the most apporpriate places, and you will probably get a decent answer. Try not to troll and be weary of them too.
Dont start a new thread without searching for your answer first. If you can, find an older thread to continue and dont start new threads about your project bike, there is a current projects thread just for that.
Also, go show off your face and associated machines in the Faces and Bikes thread.
For a good laugh, look out for the Memes/ Funny videos/ Epic Fails/ Epic Win threads.
Peace out on the friendliest forum on the internetz cause we have Balki.

Just finished skulking in the shadows- now in the nursery! This is my first post. Don't live in London. Toured the Lake District on a fixed wheel JRJ- that's a Bob Jackson- long, long time ago. Love reading posts- admiring member's RAD bikes. Regards to all, Billy

Hi, found the forum whilst googling 'L'eroica on fixed'. I don't live anywhere near London, in fact living in Stornoway, I probably live as far away from the city as it's possible to get in Britain (barring Shetland).
Originally from Stafford, I started cycling with Stafford Road Club as far back as 1973. I'm now approaching '50' very quickly, and have rode fixed since I was a teenager, racing on the track a a member of VC Europa (and later Halesowen) between 1977 and 1981. I've had a fixie in my collection ever since.
Currently I own 4 bikes - 2 geared (an aravis audax, a Trek MTB) and 2 fixed (a 1970s Bob Jackson and a re-badged 1977 Team Raleigh)

I thought I'd drop a post in here to greet everyone. Been signed up for a short while and found the information on here great before getting my Plug 3 weeks ago. I know it's OTP but I used my company's ride2work scheme with Evans and got a good deal in the sale.
I'm a graphic designer for a popular online shop if you want to know that...
Used to ride BMX before I went to Uni and then moved to London and joined the rat race in the underground for nearly 3 years before deciding to get back on a bike. Now I do a nice 14 mile round trip everyday between Bethnal Green and Streatham.
I've been bitten by the cycle bug and can't wait to get my hands dirty and transforming my bike! Adding stuff to my shopping list all the time.
I see quite a few riders zipping along my route each morning and it'd be great to get to know you guys better. Nice community on here.
Cheers

Nice posts, both! Come to drinks sometime when you're in London, Sam, and you, too, Rob. (Rob's local drinks: http://www.lfgss.com/thread4264.html) Welcome.

Thanks Oliver, actually I live in Bethnal Green but work in Streatham so I would probably meet up for the east drinks.

Hi all, intro post:
CTC member (have regulation beard but no SPD sandals), back into cycling two years ago after decades away, tend to ride long rather than quick, did first century last year, plus the odd Audax including Dartmoor Devil. Cycle to work 6 slightly hilly miles each way every day plus ~70 miles most Sundays with friends from CTC. Would like to do more Audaxes this year, including a 200K.
All multi-geared bikes at the moment and not too sure re. single speed or fixed in Cornwall due to the steep little hills. Signed on here hoping to get technical advice to possibly build project around the S2C hub.

Intro post 2 (how am I doing?)
Current bikes:
28 years old 531 Overbury's touring bike, 6-speed triple (still with original Biopace!)
Pacific Reach folder with f & r suspension, 8-speed double
Specialized Allez Sport Triple 9-speed
Carrera Subway 8 commuter with Shimano 8-speed internal hub gears: £120 shop soiled bargain
Remains of another Subway 8 with knackered hub: possible project??
Hi! I've been in London for around 5 months and have been commuting on my fixed gear from the East to Victoria for a couple of months. Don't have heaps of knowledge, building it up as I go! Ride a Globe bike that I am trying to 'improve' when I get the chance!
I'm sure I have spotted lots of you on the road (not in like a super lame stalker way) at some point - say hi next time you over take me! :-P
