  • Ok so been riding 'fixed' for 2 weeks and mostly it's all good. But I constantly have trouble getting started from stops ( can't trackstand - wish I had learnt!) and had the cycle in from Hell this mornin was a right wally so sorry to anyone I cut up! Anyone else reassure me that everyone has days like that?

  • Yeah we all have bad days, sometimes you just can't get the flow right.

You don't need to be able to trackstand to start off, what trouble are you having exactly?

Don't worry about trackstands now, they aren't that useful and you can learn later.

  • you know you can edit your posts, you dont need to quote your own text to fix it. Welcome Tronkeys!

    Thanks ChainBreaker!
Yes, i have thinked that i have could edit the message, but i haven't found the "edit-icon"...so i quote it...
    I don't see the "edit-icon"...It's probably because i'm new...??

  • on the right hand side.. 1st one will say edit - near the quote button

  • @Fox thanks for the advice - main problem is being what i can only describe as cack-legged! Basically I have to really consciously think about un-clipping foot when its at the rear of the rotation otherwise having to pick up bike and spin wheel round with leg clipped in at the front. But when i get 'confused' or rushed inevitably the foot clipped in is at the rear and then, queue me trying to set off and not knee butt face! (does that make sense?) Its getting better (thank the lord) but still feels akward and adds more pain to the bad days!

Not when you're still in the Nursery. :)

And what does being in the nursery actually amount to?

Well members in the nursery can:

    []Search the forums
    [
    ]Reply to existing threads
    []Upload a profile picture (non-animated)
    [
    ]Join an existing social group

What nursery members can't do is:

    []Start new threads
    [
    ]Use Private Messaging
    []Have a custom avatar
    [
    ]Upload a animated profile picture
[*]Edit their posts (they can't undo what they say)
    []Rate threads
    [
    ]Give reputation
    []Post on polls
    [
    ]Leave messages on profile pages
[*]Anything else not explicitly granted to them above

Do you have a font brake? You can just apply the brake, one foot on the floor, arse off saddle and lift the back wheel up with the clipped in foot as you spin it round to the correct position for starting off?

Interesting! Its been long since ive been there and to be honest, i never needed to edit my posts or start a thread or pm anyone when i was but a wee lad in the nursery.

  • @Wiganwill thats pretty much what i am doin now that i have got my head round it but literally only just in the last day or two so still gettin caught out on quick change of lights or slowly cycling between trafic and then having to stop etc...
Not too proud to ask for help - any forumengers offer specific training for 'fixed' road riding - genuine question?

  • @Wiganwill forgot to say thanks for suggestion!

  • mickey moo moo... Wiganwill has obviously disappeared somewhere, but he is a qualified cycle trainer.

Have a read of this thread: http://www.lfgss.com/thread31307.html

A number of forum members (myself included) have trained with him. He's bloody excellent and a nice chap to boot.

I urge you and anyone else reading this, regardless of standard, to take a session with him. It is enormously beneficial.

  • @Balki nice one thanks loads for that- was feeling a bit unsure whether to ask but glad i did!

  • Send him a PM - its all good.

  • Virtually visiting via San Francisco. Wanted to introduce and say "hey".

I'm old, have lots of bikes (too many) and spend compuslively.

    Hello. Hello. Hello.

  • Hello hullo harro. Nice blogs, shame yr SF Fixed link is just to the enter username / password page. Regardless:

  • Hey Guys. Been gassing for a fixie for awhile now and have decided to get off my butt and do something about it.
I've bought a frame from Hilary and am compiling a list of all the other bits I'll need. I expect I'll soon have rafts of stupid questions that you will all answer with forbearance and good grace.

  • PM Dancing James, he's yr man for the basics.

Thanks, OCDC. I think I'm relatively handy at building 'stuff' so hopefully I won't hit too many problems. Although I haven't done any bike stuff since I was a kid.

  • Um before you do that I strongly recommend reading some of DJs posts. Most, if not all of the info you'll need is in the Mechanics and Fixing section, or on Sheldon Brown. And if you really can't find what you're after, that's when to ask around.

    Good luck!

    you didnt last that long...

  • I can't be responsible for ultraviolence Chainbreaker, I really can't.

  • To be honest, I figured you were probably winding me up.

I've spent a bit of time on Sheldon's site already and have been going through M&F. Just browsing and absorbing until I have hardware in my hands (so to speak) at which time I will undoubtedly end up sitting there with a blank stare until someone snaps me out of it.

  • Afternoon all, been lingering on the forum for a while and decided to join up. had a cheap Btwin race 1 for a while but it unfortunately got stolen last week. need a bike for work etc so probably going to take the plunge into the world of fixed buy a fuji track in the next few weeks. live in Forest Gate over in East at the moment. looking forward to getting on some rides and the like.

  • Hi, just joined after being an occasional lurker for some time. Also a member of Retrobike, especially the Road Bike section. I seem to have become a classic bike collector over the past few years, not deliberately, it's just happened!

  • Hi, i'm a newbie on this forum but i'm also a long time user of his little brother in France. I'm glad to be here. See you !
