Hi all,
Just a quick hello. I'm Tim. I don't so much ride a single-speed bike as a no speed bike, as I returned to my bike today to find it missing both it's wheels, and therefor all those gear things that attach to the back wheel. Rather than getting annoyed, I'm taking this as a sign from above - having been toying with the idea of converting it to a fixie for a while now. It's almost like those thieving bastards were helping me out. Almost...
So the project begins. However...I know almost nothing about this. might be asking for a few pointers.
Cheers

Hi, I joined a couple of minutes ago. I'm from Johannesburg South Africa. I was at the very first South African Fixie meet, which happened in Cape Town last year September. I am an old school BMXer, but also ride road bikes. I am quite fascinated with the fixie movement. Anything with wheels and pedals are fun to restore and ride.
that is crazy. cycling in Joburg must be like running across an archery field with a target on your back.

Hello all!
Massively got the bug for cycling around London a few years ago, most of the time, I genuinely enjoyed my commute to and from work. Now I have to take the tube, I definitely can't say that! (I don't live in London so don't keep a bike here now)
Anyway, I've signed up so that I can get some help with a survey we're doing for TfL, it's designed to get your thoughts and opinions on ways to improve the London cycle networks, particularly for people who find it hard to navigate their way around and have a lack of confidence caused by the concern that they may pull out into the path of a giant lorry!
The survey can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J93TMK6 and we'd really appreciate it if as many of you could contribute through it - whatever your level!
Thank you!

Hi there fg/ss people, happy to be here. Spent all last weekend reading the legendary glossy girls thread, enjoying the pics and the slagging in equal measure, so thanks to everyone who chipped in there! Been riding fixed - about 7 years now - in London, SF and Tokyo, although not a scenester by any means. Just had my banana bike stolen, 2 weeks back in London. Very unhappy about that.
Until I have new photos of a new bike, here's a picture of a burrito.

Enjoy the forum!

Hello everyone, Im Tom aka stingray or 'stingers'. got my first fixie about a month ago, sad to say im to poor to afford any real quality so Ive ended up with a 'create' bike of Ebay. (please be gentle) its a free fun way for me to get around London and to keep fit. Ive fallen in love riding it around though. i will try and make it to CM tonight if i feel up to it seeing as Im still hungover from Wednesday night.

Thanks for yr reply : You've got the same frame... Funny since I got mine i've seen a few about the place. Is your also yellow?
i just got off the phone with the guy at Planet X: He said that i'd have no problem using either the R-500 or Planet X b or C type wheels (all have the same shimano 8,9,10 speed compatible hub) with a single speed conversion kit. What I didn't ask him was what if i want to ride Fixed? Could I simply put o lock ring on and be ok or is that the so called suicide hub?
He also said that he thought teh falcon has 130mm spacing. Do you know if this is true? Track bikes are 120 - or so he said
D
Mine is yellow and white, though I've seen a couple of the yellow ones about too. Yeah the rear spacing is 130 but it's steel so you there is enough flex in the rear triangle to pull each side in 5mm without doing any harm.
If you use a normal hub and use the SS conversion kit then you can't go fixed without welding the hub (suicide hub).
I have the Planet X track wheels (they are about £100 for the pair, 120mm rear spacing) that have a fixed/fixed rear hub. So you could get a screw on freewheel (will need a freewheel removal tool to get it off again), that would give you the option of using the other side for a fixed sprocket if you decided to give it a go.
The wheels have been pretty good, over a year use and rode them all through the winter in all weather for commuting (35 mile round trip) and they held up well and are still true. I did have one broken spoke just as the weather started to improve, but apart from that they have been great.Hope this helps!

mattywilccok has reported a post. "Very rude do not like his unhelpful comments at all!"
If you're going to waste my time having a cry about posts like mine above then I suggest you run along to bikeradar where they play a bit nicer.
As for your request, you will find it quite difficult to get much bike for £100 so I would suggest you wipe away your tears and think of things you can sell to help fund your bike purchase. The longer you can hold off the sniffles the more bargains you are likely to spot in the Classifieds. I would also recommend scouring ebay. Of course, princess, if you had spent less time whining to mods about how rude someone's post was (it wasn't rude, it was logical) then you might spent the time better by posting a Wanted thread for cheap frame and parts..

Hello!
Well as the somewhat inspired name suggests, I'm Lee. You may possibly know me off Veloriders or the TT forum if you ever venture into such places.
I am a lifeling cyclist, my dad raced, my grandad has literally clocked up 100 of 1000s of miles in his life and is still out a couple of times a week despite bing well into his 90's now. I was 3 months old when I went to my first race, but if I hadn't of been born in December would probably have been sooner! Have raced road, track and cross with no great success but lots of fun!
Originally from Birmingham, I moved to London a few years ago and stupidly sold up everything other than my fave trackframe and considered myself an ex-cyclist. That lasted about a year when I brought myself a Giant Bowery to avoid using public tansport. Was happy just commuting until I did my back in in January and being almost unable to walk for 6 weeks revitalised my love of the bike. The Bowery is up for sale, my old track bike just needs a pair of wheels and I've just built up a lovely road bike. £175 for a scandium frame that was retailing at 1950 euro's five years ago is my sort of bargain!
So if you see a guy on a green and black Denti road bike or matt black track bike in somewhat old trade team lycra (or worse purple Halesown A and AC kit!) give me a wave!
