  • ha i think after the last beef i had with a spokster i can never ride a spok. plus to be honest, if anyone sees me rollin down the road i'll look like the ultimate hipster(more so than i do already). i really cant see the point in puting 265 into one wheel which isnt particular advantageous (besides in looks). i can deny they are handsome on the right buid, but i dont think rachel -my frame- would be the right frame for a spok

  • DT Swiss RR1.2 - I got a couple of these earlier in the year and they're great. Strong, stiff, look good - a bit heavier than OpenPros, but not much.

  • could go old school with something like the gp4?

  • i've actually got a pair of gp4's but they're laced onto some campy xenon hubs which have a casette on the back. might be a good idea to unbuild them and whip them on the new hubs

  • ideally i would like to get a pair of zipp 1080's or capmy pista's but im on a budget here. i did look at the dt swiss's but i couldn't find any customer reviews.

i think to be honest the old open pros are the way to go. cheap and chearful

  • I'm having new wheels built as well but chose white deep vs to make my bike pretty although I had a good look at the DT swiss which look and feel amazing. Jaygee has them and he swears by them.

  • Open pros or DT RR1.1 would be the usual suspects.
Judging by these reviews and the extra 10-15 £ per rim for the DTs though, seems Open pros are best choice.

Rigida do a similar rim for about £5 less again

  • rigida's as above are nice, jos has heaps!

  • Really like the low profile look of these rigida sputniks.
    Know nought about them though

  • +1

  • looked at the swiss RR 1.1 and looks good, except for the problem of getting tyres on which i find frustrating enough but again cheers for all the help still a little uncertain but looks like its gonna be open pros

  • rigida's as above are nice, jos has heaps!

    Is he selling?

  • yep

  • My next set of wheels will be built with Ambrosio Excellight rims. Sound sweet (some excellent reviews on the internet and they appear to have a band of loyal followers, particularly among wheelbuilders) and less common than OPs. I've also been very happy with both my Ambrosio Evolutions and Campag Protons (made by ambrosio), very well built rims. Currently saving my pennies for a build in the new year!

  • he's got many of the older style ones, not %100 on the newer ones.

  • nice one pm'd him hopefully hes got something special

start a "wanted:" thread asking for a cheap(ish) wheel set on this forum - i'm sure someone on here will be able to help you out.

  • I'd probably go for the CXP22s myself, but I'm guessing.
    Do you have a pic/link?
Someone on here might be able to identify the hubs (blind guess would be formula, which is not so bad if the price is right)

  • sound like the hubs is a simple System EX/Formula, etc. hubs, they're reliable, go for the CXP22s, they're far better than the heavy Langster one.

  • Hi s1mon, the thing is wheels will go on nearly any frame you trade up or down to and you'll never regret spending good money on good wheels.

  • ^^^ what he said

  • heres the links to the CXP22s

gonna start a wanted thread but gotta get my reply quota up to 5 before i can start one!!

skoota, you're right about spending good money, right now i'm not too flush but i really wanna get started building the bugger!

    cheers for your help folks

  • S1mon: yeah, they look ok, shame u cant see the hubs a bit better...i think for the money u could get the same rims but ensure a good hub rather than gambling...
