I read on Ebay that the 105 version was not compatible for some reason.
Shimano were dicks about the sneaky change of spline length from Octalink V1 to V2, and the BB-5500 was issued with V1 splines and then with V2 splines without a change in model number. The short-spline V1 is compatible with 7700, the long-spline V2 isn't

I thought all octolink were English thread?!

I hope not Matt - you know the frame of course. The Italian threads are marked 70 and the English 68 - just under the group set number. You can see the 68 and the 70 in the images above.

Aha! Definitely worth servicing the DA, just do it over a tub to catch any wayward bits. Give it a thorough clean and pack it out with grease.
Decided to leave the frame red, got full DA 7800 to go on, with some ti finishing kit and dt swiss wheels. Should be built up by the end of March. Thanks again for the frame, it's a beaut.

What's the plan for the GT miro_o?
It's going to be setup for SS gravel grinding in time for Hell of the North Cotswolds in April. I'm just doing some work on my winter hack at the moment so it has to wait.
I'm afraid everything bar the saddle and bar-tape (and chainguides) will be from the parts-bin. I'll ride it like that whilst I get some CX fitness and technique and work out what needs changing. We have a summer league here so I can dip my toes there.
Perhaps I'll treat it to racier wheels in the autumn.

had my first road bike ride yesterday and the new set-up (straight carbon seat post and 120mm stem) felt better than the old one. i realised (after getting the cx-bike) that i'm sitting to stretched on my road bike.

What's the chainring?

As the Yokel-Motion is the only bike complete bike I have, it has to double as my road bike too: undo brake, undo stem, swap bars.
Wasn't aiming for tarck, but the only tape I had handy were some off-cuts from bullhorns.
PS Inline post en-route.

Cheers, it's an old-school BMX "Phantom" (110mm BCD, 1/8") running on Shimano New Deore cranks
I think we need a shot of the wishbone on yours - looking good.

I've made a very tentative start to building up a frame I recently bought, mainly with the intention of saving my neck and upper back from the pain I was getting from my almost lo-pro Dave Lloyd. Billed as a 54cm frame, this Lemond has a 55cm actual top tube, slightly sloping, so the stem I've tracked down is a bit long at 120mm. For now I have fitted it upside down - apologies for that, and I will probably flip it again soon. Need to find a longer nut for the front brake, and then transfer the transmission, but that will wait for another day.
and for comparison, here's the Lloyd in an earlier incarnation

I stand corrected, you are absolutely right.

Does anyone know whether there is such a thing as standard rail width for saddles? By width I mean the distance between the two rails.
I ended up having to order a new oversized cradle for my heylight seatpost but I still cant get the damn thing to work. I've tried it with a Concor (old not modern), Rolls, SLR and my new Smud carbon saddle but none of them fit. The triangular yokes are too wide to sit between the rails.
Any ideas?

I'm about to pull the trigger on some paselas unless anyone has any objection/recommendations.
Also should I go for 28c or 25c? I'm concerned that with the 28s i may not have enough clearnace on some chromoplast 35 mudguards.
^^ The group set came from the red Donohue Tom!
