  • When putting bikes together, I love the opportunity that you get to meet new people.
I bought the frame off saarf on this forum so it seemed only fitting that I get someone off the forum to build the wheels for me. A quick search found a bunch of people raving about Arup..
It also helped that he's not far down the road from me in Sydenham.
I dropped the rims and hubs to him on Sunday, he emailed me back with the spoke lengths on Monday, I ordered the spokes to be delivered directly on Arup on Monday (as I could get them cheaper) and on Wednesday, I have built wheels! Talk about a true gent. I'd thoroughly recommend him and he even graciously took the following photos during the build process. Here you go:

  • Farkin lovely!

  • They do look very nice. What width tyres are you ordering?

  • Unless I've got it massively wrong, which I may have done, I've ordered the Vittoria Open Corsa in 700c x 23. They come in a 21, 23 & 25.

  • I'd be interested to see the tyre profile width you get and transition onto the rims

  • Sure, will post some pics this weekend!

  • Tyres arrived today from Ribble. Vittoria Open Corsa CX. Lovely!

  • ^ fantastic tyres.

  • Quick releases are here. I wanted some Campag ones but didn't want to stump up £65.00 for Record ones. I did manage to find some Khamsin ones for £25.00. Quite like them.

  • Really nice! You got a shot of the frame and wheels?

Did you find out the rider weight for the rims?!

Nope, not yet, must remember to send them an email. The frame is currently in my storage locker and will pick it up this weekend.

  • Tubes arrived today. They're Conti Race 28's with the 80mm non-threaded valves. Tyres were toight like a tiger to get on but look great. Look all my might with all three tyre levers.

  • Yup, a bitch to get on and off. But they're a great ride.

  • Couldn't help myself.
Had a few spare minutes this arvo so decided to test fit the wheels.
    I think they look alright.
Will have another set built for the marmotte.

  • The wheels look great on that! Any idea when it'll all be up and running?

    Thanks ltc,
    Still saving for the groupset.
Shouldn't be too far off now. Maybe buy it in the January sales if they eventuate. Can't seem to find a 11 speed Record Groupset for much less than £1100-1200.
Any one got any suggestions for some relatively shallow drop bars that will work with/look good with a quill stem with a 25.8 - 26.0 clamp? Preferably black?

  • Spotter bars a.k.a Bontrager ssr vr-c.

  • Thanks for the pics of the tyres on the rim ^^

Why Record? and not Chorus? There's only approx 120g weight difference .. but a crudely £300 price difference.

  • the frame is beautiful; personally i think the deep rims detract from the frame - my personal opinion deep section carbon doesnt look right on such a beautiful frame

  • /\
wonderful name, do you have many?

  • ^^i disagree, I think it looks great, it's nice to see someone doing something different.
