  • Any thoughts on how to get the word out to other areas about the Guts and Glory Shafts?
    Guts and Glory site

  • Will pop something on the Manchester forum for you :)

  • Awesome. Thanks Andytk

Will pop something on the Manchester forum for you :)

  • Loads of fixing options. I have M4,M5,M6.

  • I rode past Calthorpe this morning and there was a cherry picker (basically a large crane-like device, originally designed for harvesting delicious cherries, now re-purposed to suit the cold hard needs of industry) and a white van in the car park.

There were men standing around wearing hi-viz whom I can only assume are contractors, too. Deduction tells me that they're either preparing a workwear catalogue photoshoot, or having a look at the lights!

I caution against excess optimism. This isn't the end. It's probably not the end of the beginning. But it might be the end of the pre-amble. Maybe.

  • I'm pretty excited about this, if the weather wasn't so shit I'd be tempted to cycle there tonight and check but I think it's likely that won't happen.

I can take or leave the polo but I'm really looking forward to you about all chipping in and buying me one shiny beer for my efforts!

  • Considering all the time and effort you've put in so far, I'm a little surprised that you're not down there supervising.

I won't be down that way until tomorrow night but I'll update again then.

  • Soooooo who's going to the Bikelounge to meet gary fisher? Anyone?

  • So shall we invite people down for a Sunday polo session in January. Maybe not a tournament, given our lack of lights, but a polo winter BBQ?

  • I like the idea!

Guys......I got the FUSE knee and elbow pad for Christmas!!!!! Looking good..... BUT what's happened........?!?! : few hours before present opening I slipped and had a huge fall....landed on my right knee and elbow.......lump on it and painful.......arrrhhhhh.....annoying.....Merry Christmas! :-D

  • That's why you shouldn't wear pads, makes you complacent! Merry Christmas to you too.

I agree that a polo get-together is a good idea!

  • Remember we have 'beginner's day' on the 12th. I reckon 2-5 workmates will come along.

  • OK. Can someone post it up on facebook.

  • This is just because Dan asked. Basically it is just passing the buck but I will now hold him personally responsible if it's not fixed because he has said that it is (and his phone number is on it!)

    Dear Ms Pearson

Thank you for your email of 29 November 2013. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you.

I am advised that all of the lights except one have been repaired, the timers will be programmed this weekend and the lights will be functional thereafter.

Initially, the bulbs were thought to be the only problem however, it transpired that there were numerous problems with the lights including water damage to the external lamp igniters on the column heads and broken glass on some of the column heads. In order to carry out the repair it had to be arranged for the column manufacturers to carry out a maintenance visit and lower the columns. The repair involved Birmingham City Council staff working with several partners and I regret that the matter took longer to resolve than I would expect and I apologise for any inconvenience you have experienced.

    Yours sincerely

    Councillor Sir Albert Bore
    LEADER OF THE COUNCIL

  • Did you omit the part where it said

    "Yours sincerely

    LEADER OF THE COUNCIL
    (Dictated but not read)
    "

  • Thanks Kat. Sterling work getting it all sorted.

Admittedly contractors can be a ballache, but at least half of the delay was caused by Council dawdling and buck-passing. It shouldn't have needed us to pester them, and it shouldn't have taken *any *time for them to figure out who is responsible and how to get the job done... Having said that, I'm quite impressed that Victoria Quinn and the Supreme Leader actually took the request seriously and responded to emails.

    Wednesday polo resumes?

  • Yay! Wednesday Polo returns! Good work Kat.

obviously confused post there from Dan, contractor to the Council.

  • Contractor to the West Midlands Transport Executive, actually. Although I think they really *are *the Council...

Neil - Chief Siphon of Youthful Naivety and Optimism.

  • Sounds like a compliment!

  • Is it ok to come with no mallet? As previously i have just taken other peoples thinking chris and fin bought them all - didnt realise people had personal ones!

  • Never. Touch. Fin's. Mallets. Ever. ;)

  • I will bring extra mallets

  • Hey that ball jointing rule we were talking about has now been activated as I suggested. 2 seconds anywhere on court.

Now we need a ref, a time keeper, a score keeper, two goal refs and a ball-joint timer...

§5.4.1 – Ball–jointing is permitted for a time period of two seconds anywhere on the court. Ball–jointing that extends beyond this time limit will result in a ball turnover.
