I am increasingly of the opinion that even typing the phrase "Android 4.4 Kitkat" is not worth the effort.
Meh'est release evah.

Everyone recommending nexus 7 to Hugo is ignoring the brief. He wants expandable storage.
I had a search and you can plug in expandable storage. So I think that is a work around. Right?
Basically they'll need a way of taking data (mainly photos) from the tablet and putting them onto something solid state for safe keeping. And yes I know the cloud is easier.
He may be fine with the hudl. S'cheaper.
Unfortunately Tesco is a 100% no go. But I'm probably going to end up buying one for myself at some point.

Google isn't releasing life changing upgrades any more. They just change some stock vanilla stuff.
The big upgrades are the individual apps as it means they can control forked Android and the skins other phone companies use.

Well Yota e-ink + lcd phone actually made it to production. Interesting, and expensive, but if they can start mass production and under $200 (rather than $675) it might sell

So, due to a rather boring story I now have two LG G2, one 16gb in black and one 32gb in white.
The black one had cm 10.2 on it and has been my daily phone for ten days. The white one is boxed.
I would like to sell one of them. £330 for 16gb, £370 for the 32gb. Both in perfect condition, obviously.
Anyone interested?
If it helps, I love this phone. Battery life is stupendous and the screen is also fantastic. Obviously very fast, what with the snap dragon 800 quad core goodness.

I have a Nook HD and have just picked up a second one refurbished (£60). If I put CWM on the second one is there any issue with just flashing my backup from the first one onto it?

3 have just announced that they are extending their "Feel at home" service to the USA - so you can use your inclusive minutes/texts/data when in the States rather than paying ridiculous roaming charges.
Win! Awesome timing given I am off to LA/San-Diego in January
Now to hope they have extended it to France by the summer....

this is what I am doing with the Galaxy tab 3 - OTG cable and Nexus Media Importer app - drive needs to be FAT32 - works a treat, watch a bunch of films on the tablet, from a drive

Playing with NFC tags. Trying to find uses, I'm sure I'll find something.

Could you stick one on the bike to automatically start and stop strava logging?

Put one in the pocket you don't normally put your phone in. Set it to make the phone ring after 1 minute. Use it as a way to get out of awkward moments/meetings/dates. All you'd have to do is take your phone out for it's normal 5 minute check then put it back in the other pocket, it rings 1 minute later. you shout "You've got what stuck up where? I'll be right over." Then run off to the nearest pub.

The problem with NFC tags is that your phone screen needs to be on, and the phone unlocked. Obviously it's a security feature, but its a little bit annoying.

I occasionally look at them thinking I could do something cool and then realise that whatever I think of would be better done with Tasker. (e.g. press the icon which gives a two minute delay then triggers your ringtone).
Saying that, I do seem to be having some problems turning GPS on and off under Kitkat. It seems to be tied into the location services now and I haven't quite fathomed the difference, other than it won't work.

I have a few, was playing around with them earlier this year. The only real use I could find for them was distinguishing between the two induction chargers I was using (one on the desk and one on the bedside table, both in the same room so couldn't be done by location).
The problem with NFC is its really close to being useful technology, but its not quite there yet. It could have a very bright future for mobile payments, but thats probably only going to happen well if the carriers stop trying to get in the middle of everything. The problem with uses further than that is that currently there aren't really a lot of situations where touching your phone against something else is an obviously more convenient solution, and where it is (things like touching devices together to create a quick bluetooth connection), its held back by the need for widespread adoption to move forward.

I have a plan for the something useful from NFC tags, but either need to find a good (discreet) android coder, or finally learn to do it myself.
I think that the second is more likely, but don't go holding your breath. If/when I get something written, I'll pop a copy here for people to test for me...

It would be very handy at work. Instead of using swipe cards to get through 'secure doors' it would be great if the mag locks turned off when you were 100cm away!

Range is about 10cm.
There are dev-team builds, but it's not in the nightly trunk builds yet.
