Isn't running them in the washing machine at it's hottest setting also does the same thing?
No because the treatment is applied *after *washing. And clearly doesn't work in the washing machine as your experiments show.
Running reproofing treatment in the washing machine at high temperatures probably has the effect of washing them out (and ruining your clothes.)
(*Edit: there are two in one treatments available but they still require tumble drying to activate them - perhaps this is where you're getting confused.)

Great, spend £240 for a jacket and then spend £5 to tumble dry it every few weeks to keep it waterproof. Anymore costs? Surprised Rapha don't make us pay them royalties everytime we wear their clothing...

You have to do that to every decent waterproof jacket.

Yup. It's just part of basic maintenance. Would you complain about spending £2k on a bike and then having to grease the bearings to keep it working?

I suppose it just stems from not ever having to treat any of my clothing like this. I can understand something like a bike with moving parts etc but a jacket?
I guess im not with savvy all the technical fabrics

Took my hardshell out for the first time at the weekend. Slow pace 60 miles in 6-8 degrees and rain on Saturday, medium pace in somewhat warmer dry conditions on Sunday. Saturday it was fine, even a little cold at times. Sunday was really a little too warm. Didn't feel too boil in the bag, but felt somewhat damp all day, which I guess it is supposed to avoid. Base layer, long bibs and overshoes. Probably wouldn't want to use it for anything particularly high intensity.

Any one had any experience with the over socks... I don't like the idea of cutting my own cleat hole?
-
• #14317
Just buy proper neoprene oveshoes, the Rapha oversocks are meant to be a bit shit

Winter jersey over FS BL, toasty. Fingers on the other hand....

I went for the Long sleeve jersey rather then the winter jersey. That way I can use it all year round.

What good are oversocks anyway? Not warm enough for anything and no protection from wind or rain?
-
• #14322
Noeprene overshoes arent as comfy as oversocks. If its not proper winter weather I much prefer an over sock. Just takes the edge off the shoe ventilation. I tend to have to move my cleats for thick neoprene use too.
I'm getting the pink Rapha ones I reckon.

Why not get the Prendas ones where the hole is pre-cut and hemmed so they don't fall apart after a month's use?

Just on the re-proofing thing - I have not used a reproofing agent on my rain jacket, just washed with wool wash detergent @ 40ºc in the machine and then hung out to dry. I've washed the jacket several times and it's still perfectly waterproof up to about an hour in heavy rain. And even then it's very slow to properly wet through. I guess it depends on which particular jacket/material how it responds to washing.

Partly out of curiosity. I have massive cleats (boast post). I was wondering if a custom cut would be a good idea.
Mainly I just like shouty oversocks, and never expect them to last anyway. They die, so my shoes can live on.
Of course he buys more. Andy only re-proofs so the tramps he donates to are warm and dry.
