  • I just got the same email.

  • I haven't. Yet.

  • According to Natasha at Action Bikes the 28c is now discontinued, although it was unclear whether that was the importer deciding against bringing any more in or Maxxis deciding to throw all their efforts behind their Grid Girls rather than producing tyres that cyclists want.

  • I haven't. Yet.

    I have now. Bah.

  • So, looks like the King is dead- who (what) is the new King?

  • just got pointed to this thread by bluequinn as i am quite an advocate on them re-fuses.

there is so much more to a damage as shown. bad tyre, bad batch, bad compound mixture that means the model is wac, age and above all, bad riding. i'd be eager to hear more details about that specific failure.

i think, it's a fairly educated guess blaming bad riding as in rubber abuse to be sole reason to be on a constant tyre search myself. i rode shit cheap ones, recommended ones, expensive ones and claimed to be indestructable ones and found one thing to be true - all tyres go.

how long they last, how they go and how they ride are the main factors besides price that let me buy the re-fuse over and over again.

every one rides different, different rider weight and ability, hell even gearing and so i think, one may well find a better suitable product elsewhere.

most tyres i rode, i found to be good tyres - beside that sickness of a tyre called hardshell (and hippy be my witness, i like contis usually). mostly however, they didn't stand up to the level of abuse, i subjected them.
for a long time i rode supersport plus at the back. reasonable cheap and plenty of material to go through for some fun. i essentially switched to maxxis even though they cost more, because they last me longer, twice as long, on occasion thrice. so between 2 to 3 months from barely 4 weeks before on most other contenders.

then there are the ones that ride horrible, slip suddenly in the wet, roll like a tractor tyre or don't come in my preferred 23c size (i tried 25c enough times don't worry, all else though: no chance)

    re: schwalbe durano

lasted 3 weeks - too soft and too little tread on them
good grip, very decent in the wet as well

    the durano skid:

just over a week. confronted schwalbe, got 2(!) new ones in the mail and a letter stating something went astray in their early batch compound mixture. both free samples worked hard up to around 4 weeks but felt sketchy in the wet.

hell i found good things about botraeger and armadillos but none stood out like this dam' re-fuse. i developed an extensive collection of tyre failures on most models and peeling rubber is my main problem with most. when skidding and tyre gets rather hot on the skidpatch and sometimes (often, meh) the tread stuck to the road right where i stopped.

i call for more samples to be tested under the bluequinn condition.

@dammit: i am very keen to get hold of The One tyre from schwalbe. tubeless for the front could be the ticket to bliss if it grips as good as their marketing speak.

  • wow, i just realised, i might feel a tiny bit passionate about those tyres.

i need to get out more.

  • Csb

  • Caved in and ordered from Australia... Worked out £50 for 2 with postage so not much different to over here. Now just have to wait for them to arrive :-)

  • Via eBay?

  • I've done the same. Via ebay.

  • Via eBay?

Nah, a site called Pushys. I've never heard of it but woke up today to see they have been despatched already so seems legit.

I'll be sure to measure them when they arrive. Hopefully they are coming by plane and not boat!

  • Just brought these pair off eBay for £37 and going to give them a try over the winter period, as I'm usually a hardshell atm,so it would be interesting it see the comparison over the next three months! =)

  • Alrighty, EVENTUALLY got these refuse (23cc) on my rim on the weekend, and I have to say it nearly killed me as they are definitely a bitch it get on, (I think these were the only tyres I had to actually use levers to get them on).

I must say on first impressions visually they look incredibly small for a 23cc. Also I guess this morning wasn't the best to test new tyres out, but grip wise they seem reasonable (granted I didn't really push 100%) and they seem to roll pretty nicely as well, I think this evening and the ride to Cambridge on weekend will see the full extent of how these bad boys hold up.

  • Can you measure it? as their 25mm came out as 23mm and the 28's a 25mm etc.

Yeah I heard this was the case from Fox, I'll measure mine tonight.

What rim you using them with? I've always found them easy with Mavic and Alex rims.

  • Maybe it is the rim, putting on UD carbon rims atm.

  • Technique also play a big roles too.

  • My 50mm crabonz are a bitch to get tyres on...

  • That's Ed and TM, probably is the carbon rim, I do now want to try it out on the alex rims, but after the pain and struggle to get it on the first place, I think I'll just keep on testing the rubber. (Pray now I don't get a puncture any time soon...)

  • We all know what is going to happen tonight now that you have said that.

  • Praying extra hard then!

  • Technique also play a big roles too.

    Ahem

    Cough

    etc

  • That was a lighting fast respond.
