I cycled to work after the 1987 storm, and did so again this morning.
HTFU Britain.
Ayye!
I was up at 6.30 at the paper shop ready to do my round on my BMX.
I was the only person who turned up. They sent me homeI am sat at work now. Four of us made it in.

my office is empty so i'm taking this opportunity to sit at my desk in my underpants. liberating.
I cycled to work in my underpants. I don't think I've quite understood all this.

Left at 8:30, normal breezy autumn ride in TBH. Didn't see a single downed tree in 11 miles

You must have been in a lightweight area Mike, all the paperlads turned up at our shop. Back then we all did our rounds in rollerboots and had a tow to the start of our round by the milkman.

During the '87 Michael Fish storm, we had one tree fall down.
Unfortunately in fell on and killed our pet pig, Trotsky.
Sad times.

I cycled to work in Norwich in 87, on a pitch black road I slammed the brakes on and my forehead just bumped a massive beech tree that had blown down over the road.

True story?

I'm scared to go outside.
The horror!!!

trees down on a gas main, areas without power and a couple of deaths. just to keep it in perspective. I don't really understand the HTFU comments, I'd rather not risk being blown sideways into traffic if I can help it. public transport for me today.

It does actually look fine now, but it's too late. Have started working from home, don't want to disrupt the flow.
Having claimed this two hours ago I've now remembered that I am terrible at working from home. I've had about 15 cups of coffee and most of a loaf of bread.

^^This, I was more worried about the other traffic and people being stupid than my own ability to be a super awesome veteran storm chaser on my bike.

^ and ^^^
I decided to be sensible and take the train.. then felt that the universe was punishing me for not HTFU when I found that neither the train nor the tube were running.. 2 hours on buses meant quite a lot of reading time though ~

True story?
yeah, Ranson Road, if I hadn't slowed down it would have taken my head clean off and I'd have had to cycle to work with no head.

That actually had me in giggles in the office. Can't really tell anyone why though...

Letting people under freshly storm damaged trees is also asking for trouble and councils/public bodies have been sued by the families of people who have been killed by falling trees/branches before. It's one thing if it's random, if there's just been a big storm it would look pretty negligent.
Just a bit windy really. A tree down across the road near Homerton station:
And a tree down on top of a car a bit later on. Lots of tree debris in the roads around Victoria Park.
Disappointed by the bike racks at work, they were virtually empty. HTFU colleagues.
Did you clear the tree off the pavement yourself? Impressed.

Not sure if serious, but that dark spot just next to the kerb was its (inadequate) tree pit. Here's a picture of the tree when it was still standing:

Oh, and let me take this welcome opportunity to remind everyone that things are not the same as in 1987.
