Surprisingly, given we pass the highest point of the north downs, there aren't many wide open vistas. The lanes are mostly beautiful tree tunnels, dark and atmospheric.
It also has 2 of my favourite stretches of all the TNRC route. The rolling road from Leith to Coldharbour, and the flat-out spin on the final run to the pub.

FFS, we nearly all used to do this fixed. It’s a piece of piss, especially with the incessant stopping and regrouping you get with ‘hilly’ rides. What the fuck is going on here. note rhetorical punctuation
The metamorphosis from LFGSS to YACF is now complete on this thread, most of the other stuff is textbook bikeradar, the track stuff is no different to the grunt & tech mentality of FGF, and the TT thread has become as dry and predictable as the TTing forum.
I see no other option now than to have a sea-salted dark chocolate caramel; and I may be gone some time...

I did this fixed last year and it was fine but I won't be doing it this time because I can't really be bothered.
HTH!

Imma do this if I get off my arse & find a 19t cog.

What sets us apart from thos other forums is our whingy whiney fucks who fly off the handle for the slightest thing.
Saying this, next year we need a fixed or carry the rucksack rule, so anyone geared gets to carry a rucksack full of locks. Now to source the rucksack.

enjoyable reading :-)
i'm even more enthusiastic to attend tomorrow now!
but it would have to be 42x16 SS, as i'm without the cogs, know-how and time to visit my LBS to convert to the 'magical' ratio of 47x17, which i'm tempted to do soon.. maybe fixing-up at the same time (!); perhaps timely though, as surely 42x16 makes it easier up the hills!

i'd aim to bring a lightweight rucksack which any of our geared friends are welcome to relieve me of after i start panting!
as for the flatter rides, e.g. Roydon, i'll have the heavyweight for that one, :-)
#TNRC-WorkOut
(as trialled on the trial Chilterns ride so well with Chalfie - who was still pretty pacey, despite the extra weight + sweaty-outpourings!)

I shall be riding fixed on 44x17, I shall be carrying a bag but the bag will contain very little, I will be going fast enough to get a pint at the end but no faster than that.

^ that was me! I whispered seductively in your ear 'do a coast' but you were too deep in the pain cave to hear. Putting tubs on my Bobbin Bird was such a good decision.
As for tonight I'm out as well. I'm sad to miss all those hills :( Enjoy it for me!

The metamorphosis from LFGSS to YACF is now complete on this thread...
The final ecdysis, where the nymphal lfgss changes into the sexually mature imaginal yacf form, can only take place when there are ample supplies of cake and we start allowing people to bring panniers on a 30 mile ride.

The final ecdysis, where the nymphal lfgss changes into the sexually mature **imaginal **yacf form, can only take place when there are ample supplies of cake and we start allowing people to bring panniers on a 30 mile ride.
..for anybody else unfamiliar with Ancient Greek and insect biology (or perhaps just Ludd's vocabulary!):
Ecdysis (from Ancient Greek, to take off, strip off) is the moulting of the cuticula [a tough protective covering] in many invertebrates.
and an imago,
An insect in its sexually mature adult stage after metamorphosis [e.g. the transformation of a maggot into an adult fly and a caterpillar into a butterfly and, in amphibians, the changing of a tadpole into a frog.]
#A-Learning-Day
but surely Local Fun Gatherings and Social Scenarios is better than any other forum out there!! :-)
it's possible to actually meet each other via this medium, can that be said of other forums?
i see that YACF has 'The Pub', we have real pubs - Compass Drinks, hurrah!
.. steering back to the thread topic,

It's definitely doable fixed but as you say ^ the descents are tougher than the climbs IMO.
Did it fixed on the season opener but may give the gears a run out tomorrow
