  • Will be down by about 1830

  • Right on my way from the wharf

  • FYI it's pretty wet in Richmond - pack a jacket

  • Am here - have bought a GS4

  • Fuck it - Didn't see that it was a 19:02 train.

    Balls.

    Have fun folks.

  • It's pissing rain in Surrey at the moment... One day I will join you but for today I've ridden out here on the promise of a cooked dinner.

  • Note for next time, group leader / somebody to clarify who's buying the ticket!!
    (we've got two GS4s!)

  • Ticket was valid from Redhill as well. Thank you Matt for sorting that train and Alex for the lift home. I would hope that my stomach copes better with the Ibuprofen 500mg then my bike handling with the road conditions.

  • Hope you're OK Ludwig, glad you got home safe.

  • Yep all back. Only getting into bed now and caught the 9.04 train! Took ages getting back!
Hope you both feel better tomorrow after some rest tonight. Ludwig was an animal riding home after getting the train. I would have been straight in a taxi! I'm too soft!

  • ^ great effort taking one for the team there too

  • This.

Oh Andy, I thought we were friends...

  • Well that was an interesting evening out. Hope both the victims of Whitedown aren't feeling it too much today. Cheers for escorting Fussball home AirTime.

  • just out of interest, did the whole group actually do any of the 5 hills? I know we climbed up to descend whitedown but don't know how far that was or whether it was one of the 'official' hills!

  • badgers?

  • That is the first hill, we then trimmed the route which dropped 5 miles and 2 hills (one and a half really as the rise into Holmbury could be classed as half a hill). We rejoined the route at Holmbury, in retrospect I should have carried on round and done Leith from the proper side but I bottled it.

Rest of the ride was pretty much text book and we were in the pub by 10.

    Strava says we climbed about 1,376 ft on Matt's Magical Mystery Tour after you left us (!), which is a little less than the Chilterns last week; highest and longest ascent was Ranmore;

  • when in pursuit of Ludwig / letting the free-wheel roll, coasting down 300ft of Whitedown - unknowingly - en route to a wipeout (!), .. whilst passing ride-leader MoN (descending at a sensible pace), my mind could see Scarlett nodding his head in disapproval (likened later on the ride amusingly to Yoda!)..

.. seconds later, approaching hairpin corner... turning slightly... moving towards the outside of the road.. turn-in... slide... land.. :-)

open-notes-to-self: always stay behind the ride-leader; perhaps fix-up the Pennine (so it has a built-in speed restriction!); perhaps get a helmet (!)

  • To be fair the road was unusually slippery, most other times you would have got away with it. Staying behind the group leader is polite, and keeps the group together, but it is more about staying on route. Don't expect me to go and chase anyone down if they've been off the front and blasted past a turn.

Helmets are your choice. I believe, on a personal level, their benefits out weight their drawbacks, but wearing a helmet wouldn't have kept you on your bike, and wouldn't have prevented Ludwig from having to abandon the ride.

  • any word on Ludwig's condition?

  • Any chance of a tnrc this coming Tuesday? As it follows the original date I have for the next one in my 'calender'.

  • Next scheduled should be the 27th, the postponed Pitches and Hoes being the out of phase one.

If you fancy a quick loop around Potter's Bar, I'd be up for that...?

  • any word on Ludwig's condition?

to my PM-apologies for being (unsympathetically) overexcited by the Whitedown wipeouts, Ludwig responded with good news,

Looks like I might be able to pack a suit and bikecase and will go to the Alps.

    :-)

    #enthusiasm!
