this, from shimano, looks like a neater solution than SRAM's
Of course it is. Shimano >>> SRAM

^ patent drawing .. I'll just leave this here
It all looks like a really well designed package. Discs, electric, long cage option for loads of gears, backwards compatibility, 10 or 11 speed, etc.
Definitely something to think about for next year or the year after once it's all settled and there are plenty of other component manufacturers producing bits.
I'm wondering if road bikes are going to eventually move to a 135mm rear spacing with the extra gears and discs.

That levers look very... special.

Given shimano make 'meh' disc brakes. I wouldnt be loyal to their discs.
My new deore brake is the best I've ever had by far, although I am using an avid rotor, rotors all seem much of a muchness.

Its a taste thing. Shimano make powerful brakes but at the expense of modulation. Saints are silly powerful.
Masiive generalisation of course. But thats interweb opinions for you.

Lovely one finger braking and the servowave is great for poloed rotors, there is enough modulation but I do like them sharp.

Trying to figure out a reasonable priced groupset 90s groupset for my steel Pearson frame. Have been looking for Shimano's 600 and dura-ace groupsets, but don't have nothing against other brands. Dura-ace groupsets are getting a little too expensive for my budget but I'll see.
I would like it to be with 7 or 8 spd cassette, braze on mech, reasonable prize and reliable working. Any suggestions?

Shimano Claris.

Merlin Cycles have 11 speed Ultegra 6800 arriving any day and are dumping 10 speed gear kits (STI+ FD +RD) for cheap.

Thank you. But it is Ultegra.

God-fucking-damn-it.
My "bought before 11 speed" Ultegra Di2 groupset is still in the plastic bags, it's going to stay in them as it becomes obsolete.
I'm losing money on a load of stuff in a carboard box in Hackney.

I wouldn't care one tittle or jot if I'd got to use it before it became yesterdays news.

polishes 11 speed groupo
Yes, that's a euph..

Are there any compelling reasons for not buying 10 speed Ultegra Di2 for cheap right now? I'm not sure why I would need the extra cog.

^ at the price, no

Nope. 11 speed is actually annoying.
Not the extra gear but the fact I needed £160+ worth of shitty freehubs to use it.
I'd just avoid 1st gen. DA as parts might get scarce.

You are the last in a long line of eccentric Englishmen.

Would ultegra 6700 be a noticeable improvement on SRAM rival?
-
• #1499
improvement in what sense?
On paper (considering weight and other technicalities) .. dunno maybe
On shifting style and hood preference its personal
I think rival sits between 105 and ultegra in terms of cost/tier.If you like shimano already, 6700 is bargain atm.
Remember sram = hipster points ;)

new Ultegra looks nice. I might just go that way when/if they bring out a dark grey version.
Did they help him slide along the road?
