  • Double your sponsorship opportunities - one for cables, one for hydraulic fluids.

  • Thanks for that Oswald, I'll definitely be putting those on the Oak.

With reference to the discs- are the centrelock to six bolt adapters any good, or to be avoided?

I have a feeling that half the stuff I bought for this bike will be obsolete before it's finished...

  • Shimano doing it right!

As much as I love SRAM, this is way better.

  • ^^ I'm sure the Oak will be ready by the time the brakes arrive on the market ;) As for discs I don't know. My only experience is 6 bolt as I've deliberately avoided centre lock due to its proprietary system.

^ Shimano is using electronic shifting so there's no mechanical internals in the way of putting a hydraulic cylinder the body ..

  • My only gripe is making it available in November, slap bang in the middle of the cross season.

    I'll wait I think.

  • I have a feeling that half the stuff I bought for this bike will be obsolete before it's finished...

I bought a frame to run this system on in 2009.

  • ^ Shimano is using electronic shifting so there's no mechanical internals in the way of putting a hydraulic cylinder the body ..

    I realise.

Sorry, should've said: Shimano, doing it right. SRAM need to catch the fuck up and release some electronic shifting group sets so that they can create smaller hydraulic levers.

  • I think SRAM need to maintain some differentiation, hydraulic shifting would give them that and allow them not to have to Admiral West on the electronic issue.

  • To be fair, I think SRAM are probably happy doing their thing. Red is still totally relevant, lightest group set in the peloton and being used by Cannondale. I don't think they'll release any electronic shifting until its flawless and holds a major advantage over di2 (not that I can think of any as absolutely everyone seems to love di2.)

  • With reference to the discs- are the centrelock to six bolt adapters any good, or to be avoided?

I have a pair if / when you want to try. I bought some but never needed to use them.

  • I've read that the DT-swiss adaptors are pretty good. The last time I rebuilt the 'mongrel' I used SLR disc hubs.

What is the issue with simply buying center lock discs? Is the spacing wrong?

  • fuck you shimano; well I can be comforted in the fact that its going to expensive than getting the V twin /rant over

  • Thanks for that Oswald, I'll definitely be putting those on the Oak.

So what will you be doing with the 10 speed Di2 ;)

I have a feeling that half the stuff I bought for this bike will be obsolete before it's finished...

    SO MUCH THIS

  • Also, is campag irrelevant now?

  • I have a pair if / when you want to try. I bought some but never needed to use them.

Hmm, I think I might be buggered- my hubs are six bolt, the rotors are centrelock, I don't think you can convert that way round.

I wonder if Shimano will release those rotors in six bolt at some point?

  • Why can't you simply use other rotors?

  • Other rotors don't have the heatsink fins and whatnot

    But they'll most likely work.

  • The ENVE fork is designed for 140mm rotors, so it would make sense to go that route.

Not sure what the rear dropouts are designed for, that said.

My concern is overheating a smaller rotor.

  • Given shimano make 'meh' disc brakes. I wouldnt be loyal to their discs. Center lock is easier to align if there is caliper centering issues. But I cant see that being a problem.

Loads of folk, including Hope, do 140mm discs.

140 on the front seems tiny?

  • 140 front 160 rear is road disc standard isnt it? I already bought WW Ashima Rotors for mine that would be used with V twin.

  • No - rotors the same size or front > rear.

I'd be surprised if the fork isn't rated for > 140mm but it wouldn't surprise me if the post mount is for 140mm rotors.

You'd just need an additional post 140 - 160 mount to run a 160 on the front.

    Inelegant maybe.

  • I have the adapter waiting in the box for my current setup (Ultegra Di2 shifters, CX-75 calipers, Hope 160mm floating rotors).

But yes, I don't really like using an adapter- bit of a kludge.

  • Adaptors suck. I'd rather have an adaptor + 160mm though. Floating rotors clear heat fine.

160 front, 140 rear works for my heavy butt on the 29er. Ot a power setup by any means.
