  • I need a set of cranks for a single ring setup. any pointers?
I'd like something nice and black, but below about 60 pounds. maybe used.
    thanks

  • Second hand SLX

  • Just want it to be known how much I fucking love this bike. Just done a few hours at Swinley on the red, blue and some off-piste stuff and I can't get over how nicely this thing rides. Completely budget build, but it flies uphill and on the flat, and it's almost as fast as my old Ragley on the downhills. Not to get all zen and spiritual, but I'm loving riding rigid again with all that 'connected to the trail' bollocks, the bigger wheels are so much pleasant without sus than 26'' was.

    /csb

  • my old tyres have become very cracked, and the rear is nearly out of tread

just ordered new tyres for the 29er, conti mountain king protection black chlli tyres, 2.4" front, 2.2" rear, again to be run tubeless

  • I want new rubber but mtb tyres have got silly expensive lately :/

  • order from germany, so much cheaper and a much much better selection

    35 euros each

  • I really like that, is it an On-one?

  • Moi? No, it's a Gary Fisher Rig.

  • Someone please tell me why I want a 29er. I've got a fair few bits I could put towards building one, but i'm not sure if i'd use it. I haven't gone off road for years and I dont want to build one only to find i'm not using it.

Oh cool, might be able to get a dark green On-one 29er.

    It's fun!

my logic is i can use it for cruising around on lazy days as its comfy with the big tyres and got a lower gear ratio than my other bikes, also if i need to pull a trailer, also useful

oh and a spare bike for any one who needs to borrow a bike but can't ride fixed

  • ^ I shall hopefully be buying a 29er soon. Fully rigid steel frame should make a better bikepacking machine than my air-forked 26er.

Plus industry tells us that 26" is dead. Give it five years and it'll be on the cover of MBUK - '26ers reborn!' or something.

They're really fun and I loved my one but I just wasn't using it for anything I can't now to on the brooklyn on that you couldn't do on your FGFS.

If you use it for anything more than cruising I say go for it, otherwise you might feel like you have a redundant bike.

I have a SSCX for off roading and only use my 29er for functional city commuting type stuff.
it's nice to be able to ride up stairs. in theory at least...

  • Someone please tell me why I want a 29er.

    Because you don't have one.

    Obvsly

  • Pete, you'e living proof that's not true...

  • I'm living proof of many things.

Mostly, things that you should never do.

  • cross posting spam ahoy

  • Took the plunge and just ordered this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vitus-bikes-vee-29-city-bike-2013/rp-prod81000

cheap and cheerful to get me on a mtb, if i enjoy it i'll build up something nicer later on

  • any thoughts on wheels guys? Looking for a new pair, and both the Roval Control, and Fulcrum Red Metal XLs looked good, and around the 1700kg area.

Anything else to look out for? I get trade pricing, so £500 RRP or so for wheelset is my goal (cant get Hope hoops however :( )

  • Just buy whatever stans rums that suit your level of gnar and get them built to any decent hubset. They'll be lighter and better than factory options.

  • Well i finally got this, only been on a quick ride with it but so far, but it seems good, just riding up curbs without hopping because i can :P

  • Looks super fun

  • After much deliberation, and the fact that I couldn't try a canyon, I've pulled the trigger on this

Ex demo 2012 salsa spearfish :0)

  • Ooh, look forward to seeing that!

You can bring it to Epping Forest in October :-)
