Ex demo 2012 salsa spearfish
Will this be replacing the Transition?

Very nice.
Very nice indeed.

Before I go googling, does anyone know of a wide 700c rim for use with v-brakes?
I'd be building it onto an SS disc hub, but plan to run it as a fixed/free hub and I want to have a rear brake.
Currently using the Mavic A719s. However, after discovering how nicely my new Stans Flow EX take a wider tyre, I'd really prefer something wider than the A719. Something like the Sun Rhino Lite? I can only find the 26" version available over here so far.
Not really bothered about weight. I seem to be buying progressively heavier bike components lately to
supportsuit my rapidly expanding waistline. -

I trhink you may have good luck looking at trials/unicycle rims. They usually still have braking surfaces, and are FAT.
I recomend kris holmes from experiance.

^ Cheers, they look good, but perhaps a bit out of budget this time.
I'll start searching through some unicycle stuff.

Pacenti is another pricey idea. Not as wide though.

Will this be replacing the Transition?
No, complimenting .....for now at least :0)
My ankles haven't stopped thanking me already, and I don't get it till Friday! -

Actually, Kris Holm UK prices seem pretty good. Hmm, £56 for the drilled out 'freeride rim and £39.50 for the 'dominator'
780g and 903g respectively

Make for a good training wheel I guess :-)

^ Though I notice now that the dominator is from Nimbus.
-
• #4061
Does the Nimbus have a brake track?
Lazy.
-
• #4062
Doesn't look like it :-/
The KH XC should do me though. £39 and 830g

38mm should be more than enough.

38 sounds sweet.
They are super solid, and of great quality.
Had a freeride on the rear of the cargo bike with a missing spoke for ages. Hasnt budged.

Any experience of Woodman hubs?
Nope sorry.
Pretty sure they're well respected in the US.

• #4066
I have a look over on MTBR then :-)

My 29er is cracked :(
-
• #4068
Oh noes :-(
So soon!
Whereabouts on the frame?
-
• #4069
Seat tube, I suspect it's been there for a while tbh. Gonna keep on riding it until I go back to uni, then transplant everything onto a SSCX bike for winter fun, then decide what to do with the frame next year.

Bugger.
Post the photo on the singletrack forum and everybody there can accuse you of running too much seatpost out of the frame ;-)
-
• #4071
The problem is that only the portion of seat tube above the tt junction is reamed to 27.2mm, the rest of the seat tube below that has a wider bore. This places an awful lot of stress on about 70mm of aluminium, and is a known design fault of the frame.
-
• #4072
Hmm, I've never heard of that before. Can't imagine why they thought that was a good idea :-/
-
• #4073
what size frame do you ride?

That sounds like an accident waiting to happen due to a poor design. Write to them and complain. Whats' the frame?

Large, which was perfect in the TT, I just wish it had a slightly larger seat tube. It's a 7 year old Gary Fisher Rig and I'm at least the third owner, can't see a complaint getting far. I only paid £50 for the frame and it's not completely kaput yet, I'm not too sad.

Oh yes!
It will be there before then too!
