  • My Gazelle Champion Mondial track frame. Full Reynolds 531c Double Butted tubing. I think it´s from the mid 1990s. Frame number 3792196.

  • nice! drop the stem a bit and get her some matte alu cranks and ill stop moaning like this is the porn thread. love the curved seatstay bridge, my '77ns is straight and connected quite ugly workmanlike.

  • I might as well pop in my '94 Gazelle track bike since it's almost identical to bjorno's one!
I Still have to switch the HS for a NOS Dura Ace one and maybe black out the breaking surface but other than that i'm very pleased with her. I'm also in love with the curved seat stay bridge

  • ^That's quality - love the subtle rake on the forks. Pointless and anal magnificent attention to detail on the tape and tyre orientation too.

But lack of pedals makes me worry that the bike doesn't get ridden?

  • oooooh chaim, team edition seatpost..! my graham weigh has the exact same 7710 da gruppo, cranks, hubs to same cxp23 rims, now anodized but 53t silver is waiting da chainring. but the seatpost is a normal one. i reckon you already got the headset?

  • you got it through harrie hofstede i seem to recollect..?

  • @Diamond Supercool: Only on velodromes, but it hangs more on the wall since the velodrome thingie doesn't happen that much unfortunately, hence the lack on pedals
@Rodolfo: Yes! I also have a NOS DA 7410 NJS one but i don't want to scratch it #brag mode_off. Now to find a 50t Shimano Zen chainring to complete the picture. The headset I got trough a trade with a friend, now to get some correct tools to install it.
And no, i've had this bike for 4 years now, bought it in Woerden from a really friendly chap who sold it because he could't ride track because of his back. It was all Campa NR but that didn't really suit the frame so i've been hunting for nice DA parts

  • Some lovely new Gazelles on here, gotta love this thread! But WTF is this?!

Nice bike but not original and the price is totally deluded:

  • It's a very expensive Champion Mondial Semi-Race non?

  • Just thought I would put my Gazelle up on here. Its an 1983 A frame tat I got off fleabay and I have built up with a new Veloce groupset and nitto finishing kit.

Very pleased with it as a daily driver.

  • Well, Marktplaats worked out after all! Got this frame in the post a few days ago. Absolutely filthy in parts, so I'll be stripping it down once my broken arm mends enough for me to start being able to rotate my wrist without grimacing in pain.

Many thanks to everyone who gave me advice in this thread on how to negotiate the aforementioned website. I would have given up without your help!

According to the stamp on the BB shell (3310967) that dates it at 1987, but then it's got Gazelle logos on the seat lug. According to the Gazelle CM website they weren't used until 1989. Confusing!

The bike came with a Campag Chorus rear derailleur (1st gen) and Athena cranks, but I'm on the fence as to whether to use them - I've got a 7400-series Dura-ace set which is technically (although not aesthetically) better, and Campag stuff over here in Japan is extortionate.

  • Beautiful.
Gazelle frame numbers are not 10% reliable.
Better rely on decals, colours and details like brake ons, lugs, etc.
    I guess it's from 1989.

7400 will look lovely on it.

  • Short head tube for a 58 cm track frame.

  • so im repainting a gazelle..can anybody give me tips on how to re-install the headbadge?

  • Got the wife to hold the lockring spanner and opened up the headset.
The bottom/crown race is totally destroyed. The miche headset apparently doesn't have a seal at the bottom, so there was an incredible amount of rock solid dirt lodged inside. After 2 hours of spraying parts cleaner into it, I finally got it apart only to discover that the races were corroded and pitted. The needle bearings were ruined too. Seems like whoever put the headset on chipped the paint around the tube, so some corrosion has got around the tube edges. Grrr.

Do Gazelles take an ISO or ITA headset size? I'm not at all familiar with this side of bikes, so I'll be taking it to my LBS once I get one in the right size.

  • Iso

  • Isn't that the same?
Anyway, Gazelle milled all fork crowns to 27.0 (JIS?) to accommodate cheaper headsets.
Most dealers cut it down to 26.4 mm with Campagnolo cutting tools or similar for hi end sets.
Steerer tube seems to be long enough for all types and brands of head sets.

EDIT: I checked with Sheldon and Italian thread seems to be slightly different.
But I cannot think of any frame or headset with italian headset fitting or threading.
So, Gazelle is usually JIS, but in many cases modified to ISO.
To summarize: nearly everything with a 26.4 mm fork race will fit.

  • going to get myself this, why not?
    looks like it's 1977/78

  • A good buff and it will be as new.
    I like it.

  • indeed, it's more rust than zilvergrijs. anyway, i am going to give it a try.

  • Cheers for the info Rodolfo and Dutch Cheese!

As the current headset is an Italian Miche, I'm guessing the forks will now be set up for 26.4 fork races. The current headset has a 39mm stack height, but the previous owner also used a 10mm spacer - too much as the threads barely engage. 5mm would be more reasonable as a spacer, so I guess I'm looking for a 40mm + headset... I think.

As it stands, I have 35mm of exposed steerer with the bottom of the headset engaged with the fork crown.

  • Finally got the Gazelle the gears it deserves - (almost) full Campagnolo Triopmhe. Eating up the miles no problem and I love it even more than I did as a conversion.
