From the pictures here and from what looks like the same one here that seems to be the case.
Presumably I wouldn't be able to use the actual threads on the Fixxer, and would still need something to screw onto the freewheel thread on the hub?
Sorry to keep harping on, but I still don't really understand what I'd need to convert the disc to track use, if not Hed's own kit.
plus axle?
As the Surly Fixxer thread piece seems to only slot onto the splines for a freehub body, I don't see how that piece could be made to work with a wheel with a freewheel thread on.

Surly Fixxer works with Shimano freehubs.
The eBay link you posted screws onto freewheel threads and gives you the correct chainline, but only the appearance of lockring security, as the adaptor can just unscrew when you resist the pedals.
I'm by no means an authority, but from what I've read about converting various Hed discs to fixed it seems like it's much more hassle than it's worth and you're better off just buying a proper track disc.

I'm not so worried about the lockring security, as at the moment I'm running suicide hubs on the track anyway. I know of others running converted discs at the track already, presumably having made similar alterations.
Getting a proper track disc would be ideal - but that wouldn't be possible for £67.

Oh yeah, if it's just for track then one of those eBay adaptors and a new axle should sort you out

And be cheaper than the £80 Hed kit which is essentially just that ^

Thanks. And cheers for your help as well Tester.

I just bought one. appaz it'll give a chainlin of 46mm on a track frame with a 7 speed threaded carbon wheel respaced to fit centre. This is because its designed for geared frames. I plan on fixing this by adjusting the converter some how, but I'll need to have a look at it first to decide if that is possible, if not flipping the sprocket will get rid of 4mm or so offset I think.
I will attach it to the wheel with pleanty of torq and grub screws through the hub and adapter.
I have found axles from miche hubs most suited to the job. the axles are threaded most of the way and the bearings sit on screw on bits.

I had one on my first fixed conversion, and did the grub screw thing. If you do it well enough to hold the adapter against back torque, you also fuck the freewheel thread on the hub, so it's a one-time deal. Obviously not an issue to somebody who just bought a disc wheel for £67 :-)

HoKe runs one fine. it won't be quite as good as a proper chain but isn't banned.

no. but i suspect a drill will sort that out easily. FXE is what thats for though.
-
• #46950
need a tiny frame (45cm) and FXE doesent go that small ..
1) It can make switching a geared wheel in and out more difficult
2) Depending on the spacing, it may be too wide/short for the desired axle length
