I watched Searching for Sugar Man last night. I really enjoyed it, everyone in it (bar Clarence Avant) came across really well, especially Rodriguez himself, and it was a great story, with a pretty good soundtrack.
I found out afterwards that while he knew nothing about his success in South Africa until the moment the film described, he was relatively popular in Australia, and had in the mean time toured there, and also released LPs there which referenced the rumours of his on-stage suicide. The film sort of makes out that it was the South Africans who 'rediscovered' him, and plucked him from relative obscurity.
It was also noticeable, although perhaps not so surprising given the circumstances in both countries, that there were no black people whatsoever in the film, bar Clarence Avant, who is portrayed as a thief. Rodriguez' music was described as having helped soundtrack the anti-Apartheid movement, but this doesn't seem to have extended to actual interaction with the black community there. The worst excesses of Apartheid which are described by the film are the censorship and cultural isolation.
I would definitely recommend it though.

Kid with a bike
On BBC 3 tonight. Anyone seen this? Worth a look? -

Kid with a Bike is great as long as you don't mind a bit of depressing Belgian realism (I do....)

^^ Yep, Kid With a Bike is defintiely worth a watch. Bit of a sombre way to end your weekend though.
I just finished Cape Fear. De Niro is an absolute beast as the villain.

Try the original with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum who both appear in the remake

Kid with a bike
On BBC 3 tonight. Anyone seen this? Worth a look?It is, very European, it's more about the child's relationship rather, the bicycle just happen to be part of it.

Know of any film that gets pissed on by the remake?
Postman Only Rings Twice perhaps? (Or was the remake junk?) -

In my opinion:
Insomnia
Cape FearCan't think of any more though...

The Maltese Falcon by Huston was a remake so that counts. I much prefer the original Cape Fear.
Is the Norwegian original of Insomnia not all that then? I have it downloaded and I quite like the Pacino version..

In my opinion it is. The original doesn't get 'pissed on' as such. I just prefer the remake.

Evil Dead (II)
(the 2nd Bruce Campbell one - essentially a remake of Evil Dead).

I think 'Man of Steel' might just pull it off as well.

John Carpenters The Thing is a sort of remake of The Thing From Another World.
I haven't seen TTFAW, but I doubt it's better than JCTT.Also, Batman Begins is better than Batman The Movie.

Just watched 'Behind the Candelabra'. I enjoyed it, but still feel like something wasn't quite right.

As a massive Alan Partridge fan I don't know whether to be super excited about the approaching film, or worried that it will be yet another of Coogan's recent disasters.
The trailer (http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2013/jun/13/alan-partridge-alpha-papa-new-trailer) looks promising, but I don't know if Partridge is something that will work for 90 minutes

'Man of Steel' only a few hours to go!

So who else thought 'Man of Steel' was a little disappointing then?

Stoker on the plane which wouldn't do it justice. Damn, beautiful, even on a plane.
he mentioned this in the Q&A, likening the incident on Mont Ventoux to Raging Bull
