  • ^ that's how I remember it!

  • Sure: four hundred and twenty reasons why perhaps

  • Nope, watched it on popcorn alone.

  • Ha!

    repped

  • Watched Taxi Driver at the rooftop cinema club. First time. Excellent.

  • Best film fan tattoo ever?

  • On an 80s rewind tonight - Fletch and Ford Fairlane!

  • Mold!

  • Just got in from seeing Mud.

    It was an absolute belter!

  • Look good, rotten tomatoes concur, will check it out, cheer.

  • The Purge looks like utter doo doo

  • I think we agree on something... awful.

  • Fancied watching some trash last night, so gave Mission Impossible 4 a go. Oh the plot was awful (except for one nice twist), but interesting seeing Brad Bird (director of most of the Pixar films) let loose IRL. As you can expect, the set pieces were brilliant, and really well visualised. I look forward to seeing what he does next.

  • I watched Chopper on Monday. Eric Bana was brilliant.

My girlfriend likened it to Bronson, I thought the gratuitous use of some sort of blue filter in the prison scenes was pleasing and the story was fucked up enough that it left you wondering what was going on at times.

  • Behind The Candelabra is top notch. MIchael Douglas is exceptionally good as Liberace and Matt Damon is on form too. Not eligible for any Oscars as it was funded by HBO for television after no Hollywood studio would put up the money. How can you sell a film about a gay couple? Impossible! There are no car chases, no CGI of any sort, not a single comic book super hero, and you only get the tiniest glimpse of Damon's backside.
What sort of an adult wants to watch a film aimed at people over the age of 13?

  • watched a few blurays the weekend:
Alex Cross - instantly forgetable toss.
Ill Manors - not too bad lahndan film (no danny dyer, but it is Ben Drew directing)
Gangster Squad - pretty good, untouchables meets LA Confidential.
Argo - awesome. how had i missed this for so long?

According to his Guardian interview, one of Shane Meadows next projects is a film about Tommy Simpson.

  • Watched some great films recently.

Two very dark and slow-paced Austrian films: Michael, about a paedophile who keeps a small boy in his basement. Pretty grim and hard to watch, but fascinating. And the ending is excellent. It was made by the guy who was Haneke's casting director for Das Weiße Band, and though it seems lazy to make the comparison, you can definitely see Haneke's influence:

The other was called Atmen (Breathing), about a young offender working in a morgue as part of a day-release programme. Also a bit gloomy but with a slightly more upbeat ending.

I've seen a couple of other Austrian films as part of a German course at uni, and they seem to be without fail these sort of gritty, urban films with people on the very edge of society. Good though.

Then I also saw the new Almodóvar film, I'm So Excited, at the cinema. Great entertainment, but it was pretty lightweight compared to a lot of his films, despite having some pretty obvious political metaphors.

And while I was on holiday I watched The Imposter, which I found hard to believe was a documentary. Very odd indeed.

  • That was fucking awesome, best laugh in a cinema for ages, spontaneous applause, singing along, really good

  • Yes. Saw it at the Renoir tonight, excellent film, I had a smile on my face all the way through. My girlfriend is not a Roses fan and she loved it too. Didn't bother staying for the Q&A. Looking forward to Finsbury Park now.

  • ^ stayed for the Q&A - funniest thing ever when they opened questions to the audience - very first person to get the mic was a totally pissed Manc lass with no actual questions - Edith Bowman basically gave her 3 seconds to ask a question before mic was taken away.......girl was all 'awwwww Ediffffff.......you wouldn't...........'

was funny.......rest of Q&A......meh, you didn't miss much

    film was top notch though!

  • I bloody loved the builder who had just knocked a wall through and legged it off to Warrington Hall to queue for a ticket. And the shot of the guys outside that didn't get in. Absolute class. I thought the Q&A would take away some of the magic, I didn't want to know how they made the film, you can have too much Roses...

  • Liam Gallagher appearance met by entire audience booing like he was a pantomime villain, ha!
