• Are you looking to get a bike waved in your face?

  • not particularly. no.

  • Drivers on mobiles bother me more, but you need a copper to see it.

  • Indeed, my photographic evidence and reports was not enough apparently.

  • I'd say it's purely to make more money for TFL... And I'm sure a lot of drivers will think the same... But as a way to make money I do approve :)

  • Good idea, saw Gilligan talk about this the other day. Makes total sense to decriminalise it, and put in TfL hands, like the bus lanes.

  • 'Drivers who stop in bike boxes face £60 fines and CCTV crackdown'

    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/drivers-who-stop-in-bike-boxes-face-60-fines-and-cctv-crackdown-8635559.html

I just came here to ask if there was some awareness day today. I saw 2 cars and 2 motorbikes
keeping out of the bike box today.
It felt very strange, a bit like when you realize you are dreaming because something is wrong.

  • Decriminalising drivers failing to stop for ASLs is going to call for a whole raft of legislation - At the moment, it's the same rules that govern ASLs as govern any traffic light / white stop line.

I don't see it happening, and I don't see much point in it.

I call crowd-pleasing tub-thumping from Gilligan on this one.

  • I've always considered ASL enforcement an annoying side issue (brought on by an essentially misconceived street feature) distracting from more important ones. I can think of quite a few possible innovations at intersections that would be more useful for cyclists (all of which would require much legislation, however).

  • Just waiting for the

'got fined for stopping in an ASL #bloodycyclists'

    to begin

  • For once, one of the worst ASLs on my route didn't have any cars, taxis, coaches, or motorbikes/mopeds in it today.

Unfortunately I couldn't get to it via the left cycle lane (I turn left shortly after, so there isn't much point filtering on the right) when the lights were stationary, as the motorbike that was there had stopped in the cycle lane just before the first stop line. Rather than in the main line of traffic.

  • They're a crap bit of infrastructure, that's for sure. Seen a few police telling motorists off for rolling in, but that's it...

When I drive, I always stay clear of the ASL as humanly possible, and hold back a bit more behind the white line just out of courtesy.

But I guess most cyclists are excellent drivers around cyclists. It's an empathy thing.

  • Indeed, my photographic evidence and reports was not enough apparently.

that's official police policy for 'minor' offences

  • At ^^^ I wonder if TFL would be able to get cycle lane infringement decriminalised too?

  • Good idea, saw Gilligan talk about this the other day. Makes total sense to decriminalise it, and put in TfL hands, like the bus lanes.

Tfl, the thieving bastards, needs to start using some of our cash to start fixing the potholes all their buses cause.

  • At ^^^ I wonder if TFL would be able to get cycle lane infringement decriminalised too?

They're trying for that too. Mandatory cycle lanes along the new CS5 will be 'semi-segregated' - with armadillo-style cat eyes too....

  • hippy, the fat bastard, needs to start using some of his cash to start fixing the potholes all his bulk causes.

    True, true.

  • Just catching up on this thread after a few days off, but what's the deal with the cleaning company van? I just looked on their website and couldn't see the message, did anyone save a copy?

Also, does anyone know who owns that image of the van? I'd like to see if I could get permission to use it in a story...

  • They removed the bicycle symbols (like WW2 aircraft have kill number on the side of their plane) that represent the number of cyclists killed and issue an apologise "for any offence cause by it".

  • They thought it was funny.

Someone explained it could be seen as bad taste and upset people.

They saw the error of their ways, changed and apologised.

A happy ending and a jolly good show from Imperial Cleaning Company, I'd say.

  • You know the spoks on the forum jersey... Are they supposed to represent hippsters we've killed? Should hippsters be offended? Does vb need to post a full retraction and an apology for any pain caused?
