Just to argue semantics, butterz implies that you're in good shape but have an ugly face (nice body but her face, but her face, butter face, butterz).
Unless that's what you meant?
Why am I still typing.
Oh. Who knew? Not me, clearly...right, I'll go with chubs indeed then. Not butterz! Yay!

Maybe it's a Brando reference?

I'll have the rest if you don't want it.
Only Preston the Penguins feet now remain I'm afraid.

How/where can I get my % body fat measured and how much will it cost me?
-
• #5457
I'd ask why do you think you need it done?
-
• #5458
Find a university with a nutrition dept, join a trial involving a DEXA... get it free.
Quotes online suggest £40- £100+
Which seems a bit expensive to me. -

Curiosity.
I'd say I'm 'muscley'..... I generally think I can justify my weight because of this physiology (which is tosh). There is a fair bit of fat on me. I just wonder how much.
Can I just fill my bath up and do a displacement experiment.
-
• #5460
Yes you probably can- would be quite a neat home expt. If a little fiddly.
EDIT- it would be a fcking chore.
-
• #5461
I don't fit in my bath tub.. I think that means I'm fat.
-
• #5462
The bath would (after a certain amount of buggering about) tell you your average density, how accurate is that in terms of body composition?
-
• #5463
My gym has one of these.
They're not the greatest but they do give an indication. -
• #5464
The bath/displacement thing certainly sounds the most fun. I might give it a go later.

Right - details updated on spreadsheet (although not sure I've copied the formulas correctly)
It's both depressing and motivating to see it written down, huh. My overall aim is to be a bit closer to my BMI healthy weight by my birthday in October and lose a stone and a half, slowly but surely.
Exercise wise, 6 gym workouts a week rather than current 3 with roughly 3 cardio workouts and 3 weights/tone classes with some yoga and swimming chucked in.
Food wise, cutting out the crap like cake, crisps, cheese etc which feature daily in my diet but I'm sure I could cope with out - or certainly don't need on a daily basis!

I had a go on my turbo trainer last night. I got bored after about 54 seconds. This is going to go well, I just know it!

Nice one Poots.
FWIW, IMHO etc...
I have lost about a stone and a half since November by simply doing these.
As I have got better I have started throwing in some burpees and sprawls and swiss ball type exercises, as well as other floor exercises like mountain climbers etc.I have always struggled with my weight since I was a kid and have done fanatical running, fanatical cycling, fanatical dieting etc.
However, the best results I have ever seen in my life of weight battles is by doing 90 seconds on each of the above exercises, and running through them 2 or 3 times, 3 or 4 times a week.
I don't know owt about science me, but if you go for these (and you go for them HARD) then it has an all over work out and toning effect which just seems to shed fat!
It seems to shock your whole body into change every time you run through them.I am not a doctor.
I am not a scientist.
I am, however, a stone and half lighter then I was 8 months ago and it is staying off.
Worked for me anyhow. -

Poots, give me a shout when you're next going to the gym. I basically live next door to it so have no excuse not to go. Yet, weirdly, am amazing at finding excuses not to...

^^ I do similar stuff in the mornings* but add 1kg weights for bicep curls and the like during the squats and static lunges. It ends up not really reducing much weight because it adds so much muscle at the same time but I'm happy with that as the fat is still fucking off and the extra muscle is going to burn more fat still over time. IIRC it only took 10 days or so to drop 2 inches from my waistline using that routine.
NB: this is every morning, for 20 mins. Unless I have a particularly bad hangover, in which case I refer to it as a "rest day"
-

Exactly.
The stone and a half of mass I have lost doesn't quite communicate the fact that I have packed on a shit ton of muscle. So in all I have probably burned well over 2 stone of fat.
The fat reader thing at the gym indicates that I have lost over 10% body fat.
Went from 30% to 19% between November and March.
Trying to get down to 15% (10% would be amazing!) but it's getting a bit difficult to shift now. -

I had a go on my turbo trainer last night. I got bored after about 54 seconds. This is going to go well, I just know it!
Intervals help it from being too boring.- 10 seconds warmup
- 4 seconds hard effort, 1 seconds soft - repeat x 5
- 20 seconds tempo
- 5 seconds soft
- 20 seconds tempo
- 10 seconds cool down
Total time: 1 minute 30 seconds.
The time will fly by,
- 10 seconds warmup
-
• #5472
Did I say "54 seconds"? I meant "5". Also the noise drives me mad with rage.
I am going to wear headphones and listen to drum n bass while taking your advice, thank you.
-
• #5473
Get a turbo-specific tyre and mount the turbo on flip-flops / rubber matting to stop the noise.
Dub-step is a good music choice too.
Or Carly Rae Jepson.

I like to listen to 'Stay Away From Me' by the American chart-toppers Smash My Brothers Face In while I train
