  • Personally I think something is amiss, but I could be completely wrong.

The others got back on the Poe?

    #picturemetrolling

  • Anyway I will be at Wembley tomorrow so I would appreciate some info on this thread so I can check it out during City's goal celebrations.

Jimmy will, because that's the kind of guy Jimmy is

Ok I gotta stop this now

  • Ok I gotta stop this now

Yeah, it's really starting to rustle my jimmies.

  • Jimmy has an oinment for that

  • just watching the highlights of todays stage, absolute carnage in the final 10km

  • Not 'carnage', more like this:

  • Same here. I could understand if he was just hiding in the bunch but Cadel manages to do just that and still show himself when it counts (ie. 2nd place, 6th place, etc). You don't see him on camera but he's up there. Wiggo's off the back, on the deck, in the cars, etc. Whatever he's doing he's not riding like someone looking to win.

    • 1
      wise words.
  • I just think Wiggins has been badly protected by his team who have failed to be with him at some crucial moments so far. Hes also had bad luck with mechanicals all over the shop. Theres alot of racing to come before Ryder wins it though

Just watched the Sky highlights. Really like Dan Lloyd (the next Sean Kelly of commentary) who knows what hes on about while Carlton Kirby (?) yelled uselessnes and missed the important stuff. More ex/current pros commentating please

  • He's just sulking and cant be arsed since Brailsford slapped him down on the tour leadership. Wants to save himself for a Badger-like battle with the Kenyan this summer. Why the fuck did Uran get called back to wait for him though? Don't understand why sky wouldn't want him to stay up in GC, unless its true that he's off next year.

Anyway, hurrah for Hansen. That's why we watch this isn't it!

  • true, if ever there was a more deserving rider, Hansen is the man. Legs of steel

+1 For most of the last 30km you couldn't pick Wiggins out in the Pink Jersey group in the arial shots. All the other contenders were up there staying out of trouble and you had to wait for the camera to pan back before you spotted anyone from Sky. When Nibali went, Wiggins got dropped from the chase group when even Paulini managed to hold on. Then when Wiggins fell it looked like he didn't even try to get back to the Nibali group, the Sky riders who went back for him had to sit up and wait even when they were on the flat.

I'm not writing him off, and tomorrows TT could see him getting a lot of ground back but it's not looking promising so far.

  • Sky have already stated they're going to keep their cards closer to their chest this year, not simply boss it at the front from stage 1 to stage 21.
This tactic has it's downside, and is probably making Sky look weaker than in recent years, but the first week of any grand tour is a scrappy affair.

Damage limitation in this terrain and in this weather is the name of the game. For Wiggins, I reckon the race starts today. TT back into the top ten, keep upright until the rest day, then we'll see the stormtroopers take to the front at stage 10.
I don't think they'll get stages (go Colombia!!!) but they are now chasing minutes and seconds.

Wiggins has got a fuck of a lot to prove, to the public and his team. He's got to show he's not a One Tour Wonder, that he can step up to the plate whenever he decides to win. Anything Froome or Brailsford has said so far will go out of the window if Wiggins scampers into Brescia with a pink jersey and a few minutes in hand. He knows Froome and Cound are tittering every time he hits the deck or comes in with the second group, but I think his face said it all on stage 6 when he was caught behind that crash - 'stay calm, limit your losses, bide your time'.

We'll see a turn around on stages 10, 11, 14, 15 - in other words, the high mountain stages where Sky can do what they do best. Stage 18 looks like it could be really interesting. If there's any cracks, that's where they will really show. After that there are STILL two high mountain finishes, so this first week scrap will be a distant memory.

Nibbles is looking damned keen to snatch seconds at any cost. Why? Because he knows full well what's coming. I'm not keen on the Sky machine's dominance, but it's a fact of racing these days - it's what they do best.
To be honest, I think this tactic will play into Evan's hands too though. I've not seen him looking this good on a bike in years. I'd actually like to see him win the Giro, but I've a feeling it's not going to happen.

  • . He knows Wiggins and Cound are tittering every time he hits the deck.

If you are suggesting what I think you are suggesting about his wife Cath then you should be ashamed of yourself.

  • I must say I'm very much enjoying the Giro this. It seems much more no-nonsense than the tdf from last year. Actually yesterdays stage had more excitement than most of last years tdf put together.

Now if only I managed to get to watch more than just 3 minute satge highlights in italian. Where in town shows the stages live? lmnhs I guess.

    Corrected - thanks, wigginswill

  • Brad back on Bont shoes again too.

  • Everyone is talking like it's sky's race to lose, but lets face it, they're way down on where they wanted and expected to be right now. Being 1 minute + down at this point was probably their worst case scenario. Not saying that Wiggins isn't going to be in pink tonight and he can't still win, but realistically its going to be a lot harder than what was expected from him when the race started.

  • Anyone found a time schedule for today?

  • an hour till coverage starts is all i can find.

  • 1.30 coverage starts, expected to finish at 4.15...

  • Steephill.tv tells you everything you'd ever need to know,

  • Me too. Sky keep insisting the Giro is not like the Tour but it's not *that *different.

you're saying they all look the same?

I doubt Sky want the pink jersey yet, as defending for two weeks is an enormous task. Best to let someone else have it whilst you bide your time until the final week.

Conversely, Wiggins needs to get a decent amount of time back on his rivals today, so the pink jersey might come as a consequence of that.
