  • They look more like the jaws of death.

  • Dont they have to be hooked up to a fire engine to work?

  • They do nuclear and submarine crush-jaw-cutting-death wands too. Yeah, we need a forum one of them...

  • I might get the shop to stock a pair, just in case...

  • There's also a nice combination spreader/cutter from Ogura - drill operated. You can replace the blades with curved ones I think.

  • or the grand daddy, almost 1000kN for Satan's own D-Lock

  • That is what I meant, no one really has generators and compressors knocking around. Its a lot of gear when a saw could do the job.

I never thought about this, I guess this uses an extremely low gear to let the drill power the jaws. How well do they work?

  • Holy fuck.
    That's some serious shit.

Can someone with a better idea of figures tell me if having one of these types of tools available to forumengers is a worthy cause? Would it get used? Does it happen often enough to warrant it?

  • I still think cutting is better. You only have to replace relatively cheap cutting discs rather than a bespoke cutting tooth that is no doubt really expensive.

I can't vouch for this one, but I tested a different company's one at an expo on an car's C column, and it was just as good.

Good meaning adequate for lower risk emergencies.

  • Surely most of the time you can batter the fuck out of the offending lock with your trusty fahg d? Unless the moron/thief uses one too...

  • Iv got a little stash of thermite in my stocks... Should do the trick no?

  • ^wtf!

  • I know! Should definitely be "decided".

  • Can I suggest that if you buy cutting gear to rescue people from these situations, you also invest in an extra lock... One so you can relock the offenders bike up with a note about how they can get it unlocked... A bit like clamping but doing it to a) stop their bike being stolen b) inconvenience them as much as they have done to others. Call it karma.

Obviously charging them a fee for release would be unlawful, which is a shame.

I thought this too might be appropriate because in the instance of the OP it was just an error... they happen. I wouldn't want to get someone's bike stolen for them because of their mistake.

  • Jut for the record I'd bought some extra locks so we could relock and note the offending bike.
Maybe a release donation to the lcef or similar?
So, PrivateP, are you going to be the official 'keeper of the grinder' as you've been vocal on the subject? Would happily chuck in a few quid to the cause.

  • Why have I not seen this!?

    I must see it.

  • You mightn't not won't regret it.

    Sure.

Well how about we wait 'til the LCEF raffle is called so not to detract from that by asking for contributions?

After that I'll ask the admin if I start a thread with a poll on the preferred choice of weapon and collect donations and buy it?

I'm happy to keep hold of it until it's needed and entrust it to anyone who has a star by their name?

    Kosher?

  • How are you going to stop bike thieves borrowing the grinder?

Also you might want to edit that post to remove a mention of something which should not be mentioned.
