  • Fire brigade have said no

  • Call the police again and ask to be in touch with the cycle task force?

  • Someone posted some good instructions on how to deal with this quite recently but I can't remember where.

It involved calling 101 asking for a crime ref no. to say that you think someone is trying to steal your bike and you can then legitimately cut it off after liaising with them..

  • Crisis averted. Dickhead commuter. Liz got all northern. Hilarity ensues....

  • What a fucking cock.

  • Glad it turned out well.

  • good news in this case but a quick google suggests not uncommon (after get over the first 10 or so search responses - dog breeders have lot to answer for), it would be good to know what you should do.

  • Some kind of fundraiser for a cordless forum angle grinder?
We could put a CUNT sticker on it for authenticity.

  • Get a sticker made that says 'Anti Cunt Equipment' Or better still, start the 'Anti Cunt Cycling Police'

  • I think cutting someone's frame for them being retarded is a bit much. Assume was not meant seriously - you'd need to be 100% sure it was done by a thief to be at all justified imo. I'd rather cut the lock, let them take their chances getting their bike nicked as a result rather than cut a frame and risk them then having an accident.

    how much dollar is one?

  • The guy seemed genuinely apologetic apparently, the way it was locked took serious effort to lock her frame as well so still slightly dubious that it was a genuine mistake.
He got an earbashing from Liz, if he was just a clueless fucking idiot hopefully he learned a lesson. If he was a theiving toe-rag he knows not to fuck with her again...

This is a positive outcome methinks.
I'm still not convinced he's innocent of pre-theft.
I saw a youtube video of a bike thief in a helmet and fluro vest as part of the disguise...

    how much dollar is one?

I had a quick look. Starting at a hundred quid. Hitting £150 for a good one. I'd be happy to chuck ten quid in to know that there was this kind of "insurance" available and I'd happily put my name on a list of people to call who were willing to chop a lock off. We'd need guidelines... like maybe we only ever travelled in pairs (at least) and as a forum we had to be convinced of ownership of the bike?

It seems a bit of a mad suggestion but not too crazy.

  • ^^^^^^repped for brill idea

    This.

If you were a bike thief, what would you wear? Stripey jumper & swag bag? What would you say when confronted - "Yes mate, you've caught me bang to rights".

Saw first, questions later. Then kill with fire.

For that sort of money you can get your hands on a set of proper fuck off bolt cutters, the sort you see being used to cut d-locks etc. Quicker, quieter and more reliable. And you won't have to replace the cutting disc every time either.

Either way, I'm still in for a share.

Same here, wasn't knocking the idea.

    Safe.
    Time for a list?

  • One simple problem - who will look after it? and where would it be?

We kinda have a forum trailer that people can borrow from time to time, but it aspired that the problem is who is keeping them.

  • It was the fact that the forum trailer existed that led me to think this might be feasible.

It's monitored through a dedicated thread right?

    Seems simple enough.

I'd put in a tenner too - but as you say it's fairly risky in terms of people accusing you of doing criminal damage, or the plod saying you're stealing a bike that its true owner had lost keys too.

Rules would have to be pretty rigorous e.g. will only cut a bike off if owner can prove they own it, records kept in case of shenanigans etc.

    Still willing to try!

  • people accusing you of doing criminal damage

These people can get to fuck.

If you lock your bike to mine, by mistake or not, I'm not willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm calling the police and when they refuse to help, I'm cutting it off. Then I'll happily ring the police again and tell them what I've done.

What bolt cutters can get through a decent d lock?

On the almax demo's it shows the biggest possible cropper being used to cut chain which is thinner. It looks like the jaws get a bit fucked in the process too.

Angle grinders can cut through everything, even Krypto Fahg's
