also you have to question it's effectiveness. if that was used in a real attack (which by the way would require the woman to be wearing it at pretty much all times in anticipation of being attacked) then the damage caused/loss of power(ego) to the attacker would likely be enough to push the already sociopathic rapist over the edge into causing the victim actual bodily harm possibly to the point of murder.

frankly i think it's a completely ridiculous idea and rightly posted in epic fail. in terms of prevention it's the equivalent of having a knife strapped to the inside of your wrist in case someone tries to mug you for your phone. 1 in a 100 times it might save you but you'd have to live your life in fear to even consider it and likely it'll end up getting you badly hurt.

If memory serves, it was designed for use in an African country where rape is a frequent occurrence. Don't remember much more than that though.

If you hear about the horror and frequency of rape type incidents in places like the Congo, the inconvenience of wearing it for a small chance of annoying the attackers is worth it. Almost always some kind of murder and psychological torture worse than a hollywood horror film could come up with to accompany these attacks anyway.

Presumably those are the people that thing is made for, in which case I don't see how they would distribute it. Litter the place with them from the air? It's absurd.
