the repair was done because the thread got damaged my a tabbed washer twisting around... it was my engineer grandads solution just to stick a new piece of threaded tubing on... really unfortunate but i was desperate to keep riding so i let him do it! glad your happy with it though!

Crash replacement bar and brake levers with new cabling make a lovely difference.
Scoble in 'slam that stem shocker'.
I have spacerage than that on the BMC. I feel I should quit pretending, and fit full guards and a big bulky leather saddle the second I get home.
(actually genuinely envious of this one)

PTFE tape is used to reduce thread friction and enable a greater clamping force.
I think it has to be worth a try in your case - fit the bb with plumbing tape and take it for a ride round the block and see if it comes loose....
Your first paragraph is incorrect. Any clamping force is between BB and flange. PTFE would have no effect. It is a sealing tape. However the second paragraph is worth a try as the tape may well fill the gaps in the worn threads and stop the thread pulling out as you tighten.

"In the style of" on the left, genuine on the right:
£20 for the snide one, £33.09 for the Nitto, you can tell the difference in the soldering (if I've managed to show it in this photograph):

Copy:
Very, very little in it- both weigh bang on 50g.
Essentially the additional £13.10 gets you nicer finishing (and it is genuinely nicer- you can see that more care has been taken) and this:

Nitto are usually expensive, how did you get them cheap?
-
• #73758
I popped into Tokyo Fixed to have a look at one and found that they price them at £33.09, so decided to get them as that was cheaper than I had seen them elsewhere.

Good head up, I'm going there this afternoon, they're usually like £60-80.

• #73760
I just rang Tokyo Fixed to let them know their pricing error. They should have the correct prices in store by this afternoon. ;)

Now that's a mountain bike.
Matching pedals even! wanted to get those but were a little worried whether it's better or worse than the XT+

Thats stunning. Love the subtle curve where the downtube meets the headtube!

Ok. Shit phone pic, check. Cat in photo, check. Strange saddle positioning, check. A true forum photo of a bike...
Nothing fancy, just my track build so far. Saddle and bars are not what I will be using, just thrown on to make it look more like a bike.
Last year I rode with road bars, but I'm thinking about going back to track drops. What do you other track riders use?

So, I've just got off the phone with TFG and let them know that if this alibi dude comes in asking to buy some cheap Nitto stuff then they can kick him up the bum bum and tell him to do one!
no rust, but i put oil down all the tubes anyway, give it a little more life........mind put at rest. Riding it like no tomorrow it is then.
