The Lasco crank set on Velosolo are brilliant for the money with great chainline.

I'd like to see what MDCC_Tester has to say about this as he recommended those cranks with a 107mm bb on a dolan pre-cursa...

I ran Stronglight Track 2000s on my Dolan with a 110mm Shimano bb, and currently run them on my Vigorelli with a 107mm Shimano BB and both have been fine.

Looking at the clearance again I'm not even sure that 1.5mm extra gained from 107->110mm would solve the problem. Change of cranks seems like the best option. Thanks for the recommendations.
edit: I noticed that as I tighten the cranks one arm of the spider begins to catch way before the others. It may be I have a dud.

I have stronglight on my precursa. Had to file the edges of the spider to allow it.

Another alternative is a 130bcd road chainset. Plenty available on eBay, cheap as chips. I'm gonna be using a Shimano Exage 500 chainset on a 107mm BB. Gives a 43mm chainline.
Needless to say the spacers on the back need to go in favour of single speed chainring bolts but once that's sorted, there'll be pleanty of room.

my Sugino's 130bcd, with a 103mm bb fit better than my Strong lights, 144bcd with a 107mm bb
-
• #535
Yeah, I mean the BB length is gonna be different for different chainsets but at least the spider should clear with a 42-43mm chainline whatever.

• #536
worth mentioning i eventually fit a 109mm bb for my strong light cranks, i'm sure my chainline was always a tad bit off

Are Setas welcome in this thread?

i don't think the stronglight chainset is a problem per se. i think that the QC of the chainset is a bit random and some may have bad tapering resulting in being too close to the stay.

that is mine

I used Stronglight's with 110mm BB on my Track Champion whole last season.
No problems. -

I'm having trouble with the pre cursa + stronglight track 2000 cranks.
After cleaning, greasing, re-fitting my cranks + chainring the spider catches the chainstay severely. Must be that I had fitted them terribly the first time. As far as I can work out my options are:
Swap my BB (stronglight JIS 107mm) to 110mm or longer. Live with shitty chainline for now (I need this bike for commuting). I don't think I can fit a spacer behind the cog because the lock ring would then not be completely on the threads. Maybe down the road I can get myself a new rear wheel/hub with a non-standard big chainline?
New cranks. Can anyone recommend me some cheapish cranks that fit on the pre cursa and give 42mm chainline?
New cranks are the easiest answer to this. You can not get a 42mm chainline or close to it with the Stronglight 2000 cranks on the Pre Cursa as the spider will hit the very wide chainstays. The chanstays flare out too much for a track bike as they are designed to accommodate tyres of 32c or above, this is a pain with some cranks.
The Stronglight 2000s are decent cranks but are roughly finished and have a very fat spider, this is in itself no problem at all on many frames like my PX carbon but they are unfortunately unsuitable on a Pre Cursa.
Go to page 8 of this thread to see the problem I had with the Stronglights and this frame with photos. I still have not got around to getting new cranks for it yet myself.

Got my Dolan a couple of days ago. Getting it down to the powder coaters tomorrow for shotblast and clear coat.
Tried paint stripper yesterday and it did precisely fuck all, didn't even scratch it.

• #547
You gonna smooth the welds too?
-
• #548
Probably not, just going to get them to shotblast and then clear-coat it, not too fussed about the welds. It's a transition frame from the shitty steel one I've got to the Polish frame coming in whenever it's ready.
Going to end up being a beater when the new frame comes, so not too fussed about the welds.

I used to have a PC about 2 years ago and found it fairly comfy on the road. I've just bought another PC frame to build up onto my Miche wheel set, I'll post on here when complete.

Anyone running Omniums on a Pre Cursa? Or any GXP road crank. Is the clearance okay?
Seems like those Stronglights hit every frame they're fitted to.
Option 1 = Buy a new bottom bracket. Buy a new hub. Buy new spokes. Pay for wheel build (unless you can diy). Still have shit cranks.
Option 2 = Drop £50 on some used Miche Primato or another £10-20 on some DA7600s and be happy.
Just saying.
