  • I have the planet x gxp cranks and they fit fine on my pre cursa. .

  • Didn't know Planet X made their own chainset. Can't find it on their website but I'd be looking at SRAM/Truvativ anyway as I can get it trade.

  • Anyone running Omniums on a Pre Cursa? Or any GXP road crank. Is the clearance okay?

I'm using Sram s300 on my Precursa with no problems.

  • Yeah, I was just wondering what the clearance is like and if you need to space them out at all maybe?

  • Ok, seems like I panicked for no reason. My Stronglight 2000 cranks fit with my Shimano UN55 107mm bottom bracket perfectly on my Dolan pre-cursa. About 3-5mm clearance between spider arm and chain stays.

  • My Dolan in its current form, as mentioned above - the velo solo chainset is a good shout for an affordable option.

This would just not be possible with mine.
Is your a new frame? If not I wonder if Dolan changed the frame and that is what is causing the issues.

  • It is a new frame, bought about a month ago.

  • So this is the state of my track champ at present:

Sadly its outside warranty period. Dolan quite nicely offered me a reduction on a replacement frame, but I'm off travelling in a month and can't really justify the expense. Shame as I had a lot of fun with it, and its served me well up until now. When I'm done travelling I'll be relocating out of the UK for a bit so I think I'll just sell up everything and do a fresh build when I get settled. Hopefully it'll make a good chance to get rid of some of the niggles I've had, not least making a move towards external BB chainsets. Sad times - riding my bike day to day just isn't as fun as it used to be, and the weathers been so terrible I haven't had much chance to get the road bike out for a proper spin either. That said its been a while since doing a build I really looked forward to - when it happens I know the waiting will only make it feel better.

  • Savage. How long have you had it?

  • Got my Dolan a couple of days ago. Getting it down to the powder coaters tomorrow for shotblast and clear coat.

Tried paint stripper yesterday and it did precisely fuck all, didn't even scratch it.

You don't need paint stripper, just water and a tooth brush would be idea.

You'd think wouldn't you? The blue paint seems remarkably resilient though, takes a fair beating with sandpaper to get down to the alloy and the paint stripper did literally nothing to it.

  • Nitromors?

  • I have a special blend of it :)

  • Admittedly it was SupaDec paint stripper but it's worked pretty damn well on other frames. Oh well, shotblasting should ice the fucker though.

    Varno's wheels?

  • Yeah indra, the 40mm. Bomb proof as people have said. You ordered your frame yet?

  • Yep, got it second hand and it's due to be delivered the week after I get back from Norway.

  • I run stronglight track 2000 with the stronglight 107mm bb on my dolan pre cursa with a 49th chainring. No issues what so ever with clearance.

It certainly seems like the frames must be different. The track 2000s with the Stronglight 107mm BB was also my exact set up and there was no way things would work as you can see in post 392 of this thread.

Just out of interest what frame size is your Pre Cursa? Mine is a 52.

  • This is my Dolan Pre Cursa.
It is my first build and I am very happy with the outcome.
Everything is tight and solid, it rides buttery smooth and it's quick off the mark.

  • looks like a solid build, only thing id suggest is re-taping the bars
