Love the Black Adder, super smokey.
I think that will be my next bottle too.
Also i'm just about done with my bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail and have tasted their galileo which i wouldnt mind as a replacement bottle.

Just treated myself to a bottle of Lagavulin 16 year old. It's my first real foray into the world of Malt Whisky, and part of an effort to learn to savour booze rather than just guzzle it until I fall over.

Just guzzle nice booze until you fall over.

So what's the difference between the single malt and your teachers or bells apart from the price?

Generally, the single malts are more complex and have a more distinctive taste to them. Blends tend to be blander; doesn't have to be the case, but most of them are aiming for the mass market, where anything truly characterful is going to be marmite to a chunk of the potential customer base.

Just to take one example, I can always spot an older bottling of Highland Park because of the hint of white spirit in the taste (there's probably a better way to describe it). I like it but it would put some people off. When the output of that distillery is used in a blend, that distinctive note will be masked by something else.
Sadly, in recent years the distillery has toned down even the single malt, going for something more easy-drinking.

Nothing wrong with the 15 Dalwhinnie. Seriously CB, just ask and I can meet you at the club one afternoon. I am on light duty consulting work at the moment.
